My PhatBox does not work
I finally got my new PhatBox and had it installed by a car audio specialist
only yesterday. At the beginning everything worked as it should but then
this morning the system refused to play. When I introduced the DMS cartridge
into the Cradle the Music Manager software does not detect the DMS device. I
have tried nearly everything and I still get the same problem. I
meticulously read all the instructions and observed every procedure before,
during and after installation.
The car box no longer reads any music either. What am I in for after paying
$976?

Isnt the thing under warranty? Sounds like a hardware problem. Isnt
there a hard drive in the DMS cartridge? When you plug it in, can you
hear the drive spin up?
I would certainly call them and complain...

RE: My PhatBox does not work
Yes, I can hear it spinning allright but it does not get detected by the
PhatBox software. And yes, I was told it had a one-year warranty but as I'm
based in Europe if I have to pay for transport myself it's going to be
another $300 alone. What would you do?

Thinking further about this, it seems fairly certain that the disc
image on the DMS became corrupted when you aborted the transfer of the
playlist to the DMS. The fact that it cannot be read on the PhatBox or
the computer interface tends to support this. It would seem unlikely,
therefore, that the PhatBox itself is at fault.
If I am correct, and PhatNoise support are unable to suggest a method of
recovering the disc image, then the cheapest fix would just be to have
another DMS cartridge shipped - certainly less expensive than paying
for the entire PhatBox unit to be sent to the States and back.

RE: My PhatBox does not work
Thanks for your message, Peter. You've certainly been faster than any
support.
Exactly the same conclusion I've reached after trying absolutely everything
except for erasing the partitions and creating them and reading something on
the net on the topic of the disc image. Correct me if I'm wrong but the disc
image should be only a matter of software. If it's so easy to lose track of
the right kind of cartridge programming - and it apparently is through some
bug in the PMusic Manager I wonder why a solution is not provided for this
in the PhatNoise FAQs? Maybe it's something proprietary that prevents people
from simply using any big brand DMS cartridges?
