Default Considering an S5

Hi everyone,

I am seriously considering getting a 2013 S5 in the next little while and test drove the car but had a very brief opportunity to do so. I had a few questions that would only be apparent to owners. What is your impression of your car so far? What are some of the common problems owners come across?

Also, in terms of car tech. Does the car support BT audio streaming? I tried to do that on the S4 but I couldn't find the BT audio option. Also, for Canadian users, does the nav unit show traffic at all? How does the parking system work?

And how is the car in winter and snow? I'm torn between the s5 and the upcoming 4 series, or even possible the C63.

Thank you!

Go with the A5 Sline and get an APR upgrade stage one...awesome and will save you 15000. For 675 you can have an awesome performance package and incredible fuel economy.

The 3.0T motor in the face-lifted S5 is sexy and awesome. It has been super reliable for us. The 4.2 was a beauty, but a pig on gas. No specific problems to note thus far as the car and engine have been separately used for some time. The S5 is just over half way through the production cycle, so you avoid issues of a new introduction car. This may be unavoidable with the 4.

The BT does allow for audio streaming if the vehicle is equipped with Navi, yes, but no Traffic Reports because Sirius Canada does not supply it for your free trial. Once you get the car and trial runs out, you can subscribe to Sirius USA to fix this I am told. The new Navi and mapping system is significantly superior than the early ones, crisp imagery and absolute voice control.

For the Parking System, you have the option of getting just the backup sensors in the base trim ($400), where you'll have audible warnings (or beeps) of nearing objects or the Camera option in the Premium Trim ($800) which is the cleanest in terms of graphics I see on the market now. Also shows you the outline of your bumper so you can back up nice and tight if you need to.

The full time Torsen quattro system is arguably the best system for winter driving, Audi has nurtured that reputation. I regularly disengage the Traction Control and have a blast in the snow (when we get it), driving circles around the competition and not only because I sell the darned things. My clients tell me it's the most pleasureable car to drive, which is why they go for it over the competition.

Good Luck,
Paul

Since you're asking about the Quattro AWD I'm assuming you'd also want to consider a 4 series with X-Drive...Please note that, true to BMW fashion, the standard rear wheel drive 4 series will be first to production and will likely hit dealerships in the fall of 2013. However, if you want X-Drive you'll likely have to wait another year.

I just ordered my 2013 S5 two weeks ago, should have it by May hopefully!

I also ordered a 6sp manual PhantomBlk 2013 S5 premium 2 wk ago too and also expected to arrive in May too. The option that I put on are sport differential, rear-view camera, TPMS, titanium rotor rim and rear-comfort package. This car is for my wife so I didn't plan to do mod on it but still will do the some minor mod as follow:
1, hid fog or heon fog
2, h&r OE spring or kw v1 coilover (want reduce the wheel gap but preserve the ride quality)
3, 35% tint
4, maybe SSK, still dunno about it. Find the shift is too tall and long for my taste but afraid SSK will stiff a lot that my wife can't drive it!

So any input or recommendation on my plan?

I am currently driving a 04 6sp Manual TSX and my wife is driving a 6sp Manual 08 BMW E92 335i coupe. So once the S5 arrive, I will take over the 335i and leave the TSX as a spare car. Be honest I still thing a RWD 335i is more a driver car than the S5. However, my wife is sick of getting stuck on snow with RWD and she is in love with the style of a S5 so I pull the plug and get her one. BTW in terms of engine wise, S5 is way smoother than 335 but 335 feel more raw and kick when compare.

A5= no upgraded suspension compare to the S5, no big brakes, and so on. Those two things alone are about $10k in upgrades, with the S5's potential and APR's supercharger you are way ahead of the game on the V8's power wise. Where as the A5 is done pretty much and you have to upgrade further down the line to get the power the S5 can put out.

Exactly.. You would have to put a K04 on the A5 to come close to the new 3.0T. A K04 A5 is right around the same as a stage 1 tuned 3.0T but then again you are buying a brand new car and pissing away your warranty which doesn't seem worth it. You would also be missing out on key features that make the B8's which is S-tronic transmission (if you want an auto), and the sports differential. Both of those are enough reasons to upgrade to the S models.

I could see people doing that if they wanted the coupe, and didn't want the 4.2 V8 but now that it has the better engine there is no reason to ever buy an A5 besides price or if its for your wife.

I have a lot of experience in a 2010 A5 cabriolet 2.0T (there's one in the family that I drove from Toronto to Florida and have cruised around in plenty) and 3 months ago I got myself a 2010 S5 4.2 6MT. Suffice it to say they are two completely different cars, despite being the same model year and the same series. The A5 is pretty and great as a convertible but the S5 is alive. So my $0.02 amounts to telling you to thoroughly test each car you're interested in because you will find large differences and one will appeal to you more than the other.

Get the S5!!!
I spent a long time trying to decide A5 or S5 for 2013. A fully loaded A5 comes in a little shy of a base S5. The S5 comes with many of the A5 options as standard. And you get a truly amazing motor with tons of room for upgrade and huge brakes. Anyone would have to spend a ton more than the difference to get an A5 up to a S5.
That was the conclusion I reached and do not regret the decision I made to order and buy a 2013 S5. Best car I have ever owned! It's amazing! Get a S5 I say to anyone!

Hi everyone

I too am considering a 2015/2016 s5. Unfortunately i only know two people who have audis. Both have a4s. One was a 2010 and he hated it. He blow 2 turbo before blowing the engine and the other has a 2013 and hates everything about it except the Quattro. Before i desided to fork out $65000+hst I'd like to get some audi owner input.
