Default New Tire Recommendations

Advice would be appreciated on new tires for 2006 A6 sedan. Orginal tires are pirelli P6 M&S All Season - 245/45/P17. I 'm thinking about replacing with All season again but if anyone has a particular tire they are happy with I would like to hear about it. Also where is the the best place to purchase them. I'm in Vancouver, however I don't mind ordering them in States and having them in s installed in Washington state if there is big price difference. I checked tirerack.com and they have some great prices

Thanks

In order to maximize the potential of the car, it's best to run a max performance summer tire in the summer and a true winter performance tire in the winter. Your A6 will blow your mind in the snow if it has the right tires. All seasons are a lame compromise. Personally I have Michelin PS2's mounted on 18" S4 rims for the summer, and I have purchased a set of Dunlop 3d Wintersports for the winter, which I will mount on the stock 18" rims. (The downside of that is the lack of TPMS transmitters in the S4 rims).

I will NEVER buy tires in Canada. I have purchased from Tire Rack in the States and other retailers in the US also. Ebay searches will yield good results. Anything I have shipped from the states goes to TSB shipping plus in Pt. Roberts. It is much more convenient than picking up in Blaine. Other friends have had tires installed in Bellingham and avoided paying the taxes, but it means leaving the replaced tires there. I prefer to have them installed by my local tire guy here.

Sorry to here about your experience with Open Road, they have been great for me. I had a bad experience at Richmond, so who knows. You may want to consider getting the routine service work & brakes done at a service provider that is not a dealer. SCAN automotive in North Van. has a great reputation.

Get Michelin all season Pilot Exalto. It will be a nice break for you after Pirellis during winter time. I think there is nothing like Michelin or nothing close to overall performance. The difference is the amount of rubber that they put into each tire. Money well spent.
Caution about USA tires!!!! They may not be made according to Canadian specifications and you could be for a couple of nasty surprises for example during sudden temperature drops you may find you car with 4 flat tires.

Here is a link to a previous thread concerning tires. Use the search option and you will find plenty of previous thread on tire discussions.

Nokian Hakka's WR2, the only all season with a winter rating, available from KalTire. Good summer traction, amazing snow traction, better than the Blizzaks I had on before. They used to come with a 100,000km warranty, it may be 50,000 now. If you are an aggressive driver, then I would opt for a dedicated summer tire and winter tire.
I usually deal with TireRack, never had an issue, but sometimes it's nice to go to a local shop.

Goodyear assurance thriple thread i think that's the full name.
Been running them for 3 years and been through 3 winters. Extremely happy with them. With snow as high as a foot in powell river, not even a slippage. Going to get them again this winter cause mine are about worn out.

Good year is good yet it comes short on oily surfaces. Not a sure shot tire yet you can go worse with Bridgestones. They deflate on sharp
Turns and catch every nail they come accross
