Hi there, i have NEVER owned a Audi before, but always loved it!

im looking into buying a used A4 or A6, came across a few ads, but dont know if they are too expensive or not. could anyone give me some tips on buying and pricing? Like what to look for before a purchase?

I came across a A6 in Alberta for $32k, 3.2L, 65k Milage

so is it worth 32k?

Heya Vic,

I'm a new Audi owner - just year one under my belt with an A6 4.2. I absolutely LOVE the car. I'd be lying if I said anything otherwise. I take immaculate care of it - Because I love to, and because (I believe) you NEED to.

IMHO, they are a superb vehicle whom can be a bit of a b!tch at times.

What I did before buying mine was research - a load of it. Audiforum was a BIG contributor to my research (Oh... and props to whomever runs things around here, if you read these or not?) as well as the Audi website and various other sites.

Essentially, what I've discovered in the last year is that they are great driving & looking vehicles, and as such are not cheap to maintain. Mind you, that's having someone (paying someone) like the dealer or another shop to do the work. There's plenty that you CAN do on your own, especially reading up on sites like Audiforum.ca. I've started tackling some of the maintenance stuff that an Audi requires regularly, (that most drivers probably wouldn't have to do). (i.e. 303 Aerospace on all the seals last weekend, cleaning drainage holes under the battery next weekend....)

Anyhow... at 65K you're going to be looking at some 'regular maintenance' stuff (like a timing belt) in the not too distant future. I think that'll be good for $1500 or so (mine just under $2400, but that's another story). Expect to pay a premium for oil changes and such - again, unless you're into doing all that yourself. I'm not there yet - I work at keeping it totally clean and detailed, and have the professionals take care of the mechanical end of things.

Anyhow, not sure if any of that helps. Bottom line for me - I love my car. LOVE it. I just hope it doesn't make me broke!

Hey Vic,

Well in my opinion, the market priced has to be based on what the cars are being sold for these days. Not advertised for!! I have to think with the economy the way it is, and especially the automobile market, that it's a buyer's world. I'd be checking out various online car sales sites and see what cars are listing for, and selling for. When I sold my last car, I watched Autotrader.ca for a few months to see where things were being bought and sold at.

Naturally, the more you can find on the maintenance of the vehicle, the better off you'll be able to ascertain the value. As far as I'm concerned, if you know you're going to need to do the timing belt in a year, the value drops some. Conversely, if the t-belt IS done already, then you could expect to pay a bit more.. It's all theory tough - these days, your negotiation skills could have the biggest impact on what you pay.

What year A6 are you looking at?

Any warranty left?? If so that is great but the price may be a bit high. You didnot say what year the car is. The list of options a pretty standard for the car. Great to drive and a bit of a pain to maintain - once the warranty is over then look locally for a good and trusted indie mechanic! Check the forums as there are alot of Audi owners who have possibly a good idea who to trust etc... My A6 was sooo great and often took the longest route to where ever I was going! I switched to and A4 (Avant) recently as I didn't need such a big car. Drive it and enjoy it!

I saw quite a few A6 (picture) and noticed that all of them have a + and - beside the Drive. does that mean all of them have tiptronic?

and i email the dude and he told me i have to pay GST. Do dealers usually charge GST on used cars?

One thing I'm sure of and that is you'll always pay 2 taxes when at a dealer. Thats why I hate buying from them, espescially expensive cars like Audi
