2006 a6 4.2
Got my eye on a 2006 A6 4.2 w/ 76,000km. Any concern regarding the carbon built up issue I've been reading about in this particular vehicle? Also, the car has Falken 18” ZR Rated tires with roughly 9,000km on them. Not all that familiar with these tires and reviews I've found seem to be mixed so any feedback on that front would also be greatly appreciated. As I'm new to the Audi family, any feedback regarding well know maintenance issues would also be greatly appreciated (on line reviews seem very mixed....some people seem to have many issues while others seem to have none!). It should be noted that I am an extremely low km driver. Current vehicle is an '01 Acura CL Type S which I've owned from inception....has but 71,000km on it.
Thanks a bunch.....The Newbie.

Re: 2006 a6 4.2
I know this is an older post, but most of these cars have some level of carbon build-up ....some are worse than others...my car wasn't so bad,....it had a failed intake runner flap which allowed me to have the technician inspect the condition inside the plenum while it was apart....he said it wasn't so bad...I had used some additive called 44k which worked a bit, but I still want to use a few other liquids my buddy at the Audi dealership recommended...the nature of the FSI is to fire fuel directly into the combustion chamber and not at the valves first, so some of the combustion back-washes into the intake plenum and starts to slowly accumulate on the valves creating small issues.....The problem with these cars is most people baby them and drive them like grannies, so the car has no time to blow the carbon out the exhaust so to speak.... I say give her a nice tune up, add some of the dealer recommended additives, and open her up on the highway every once in a while and the effects will slowly start to reverse themselves just like they did on my car....just my 2 cents

Great car, love mine. You will likely have some infrequent intermittent issues with software that runs about everything but these usually seem to work themselves out if stopped and started few times. Also check the fuses before taking it in.

Re: 2006 a6 4.2
Here is the breakdown of the C6 engines on the A6. I stand corrected--some of the V6 engines were not FSI but all of the 4.2s were.
The C6 design was available with the following internal combustion engines:
engine configuration Max. motive power
petrol engines
2.0 16v TFSI Inline 4 DOHC 170 PS (125 kW; 168 hp)
2.4 24v V6 2xDOHC 177 PS (130 kW; 175 hp)
2.8 24v FSI V6 2xDOHC 210 PS (154 kW; 207 hp)
3.0 30v V6 2xDOHC 218 PS (160 kW; 215 hp)
3.2 24v FSI V6 2xDOHC 255 PS (188 kW; 252 hp)
4.2 32v FSI V8 2xDOHC 335 PS (246 kW; 330 hp)
diesel engines
all Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI)
2.0 16v TDI Inline 4 DOHC 140 PS (103 kW; 138 hp)
2.7 24v TDI V6 2xDOHC 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp)
163 PS (120 kW; 161 hp)
3.0 24v TDI V6 2xDOHC 225 PS (165 kW; 222 hp)
233 PS (171 kW; 230 hp)
