05 A6 4.2 with high current draw - Diagnosis?
My car has a high current draw which dealers in Calgary and myself are having a hard time finding the cause. Royal Oak is recommending replacing the steering column and the Start/Access control module to fix the problem, and this is based on codes. I have tested and removed all fuses and checked replays, and found nothing wrong. No accessories turned on. No chargers plugged in. With this fault, the car always needs a jump. Anyone seen something like this before? The current draw is approx 1 amp, which is high. All features seem to work and there is no sound/smell that I am aware of. The draw even interfers with the start cycle.
This has been to Reigel Tuning and Royal Oak with about 10 hrs of testing/diagnostic.

There has to be way to figure out what circuit the draw is with!
I'd focus on relays, as a stuck closed contacts would be a current draw bridge, but the actual culprit must be something fried.
10 hrs of testing for no avail?
"Anyone seen something like this before?" - the history of notorious and deadly AUDI electrical problems is longggg. Hope it's something simple in your case.
Do you have the shop manual (if there is some)?
Do not miss any circuit.

Re: 05 A6 4.2 with high current draw - Diagnosis?
This cars love affair with the jump pack continues.
I brought it to Royal Oak Audi in Calgary. They have diagnosed a faulty steering column with the start access control unit as the source. They charged $400 for the diagnosis with $5000 as the parts and labour charge to fix. When I disconnect the start access control module, the current draw is still there, so I am doubtful.
Brought it to Glenmore Audi in Calgary, and they diagnosed a new battery.
After that visit, the car is now reporting an ESP fault and a failure in the electric brake. I noticed also that there is no battery level indicator in the MMI as per the manual
Anyone can help here, or is this just a parts car?
Software versions are:
SU C6-hu.33.6.0.0632
hw C6-hu.6303d2.0
