Exclamation ZF Tranny swap

My 2001 A6 4B C5 V8 4.2L FBC code ZF tranny crapped out last fall. (205.000km)

Reverse works just fine, it chops hard into 3rd when put into Drive, and doesn't shift up or down at all, and a readout states incorrect gear ratio, i.e. limp mode. (Dashboard LCD shows all gears highlighted)

I just recently got my hands on a 2001 A6 scrapper with an ECF code ZF tranny (180.000km), that works flawlessly, but that car was front ended.

Can I do a seamless swap FBC out, ECF in ?

I'd rather not get into experimentation as its very costly and time consuming, and I have very limited resources and outside assistance is almost impossible to get.

Dealership restoration would be the only other option as I'm located in Iceland, and everything Audi related is in extremely limited supply, and outrageously pricey.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated !
