What should I do??
I'd recently bought an '98 A6 Quattro on December 1st, 2008. For the most part the car drove great. I'd put it on the road to Tampa, Florida (which is about 4 hours away) and also drove it to Panama City once. The car handled beautifly.
I drove to Panama City again this past weekend and i noticed once i got there that there was a slight bit of white smoke rising from the hood of my car. As i drove it into a Pennzoil, car went "capputt" on me.
Fortunately these guys worked on alot of engines and where able to look at my car. My car had almost overheated due to lack of oil im assuming. They at first thought i'd lost my engine but then realized that im water pump was leaking and fixed it. This took almost 22 hours but they finally fixed it and got me on my way.
Now, two days later back home in Tallahassee, Florida (2 hours away). I'm about to drive home for lunch and my car won't start. I tow it across the street to Tires Plus and they look at it and tell me that my valves are bent and my engine is getting little to no compression.
They believe this is due to Panama City improperly placing my timing belt back on my engine after they fixed my water pump. Panama City swears up and down that the timing belt was fixed correctly and that Tires Plus is trying to rip me off........
What the hell should i do?? Tires Plus is charging me $3k-$4k to fix. Should i just get a new engine? Take it back to Panama City? What?? Any idea who's bullshitting me?? Should i take it to a german auto mechanic and get a second opinion??

Re: What should I do??
Well, I think the Engine is probably fried, so get the engine repaired and get only the parts you need instead of getting a whole new engine you would probably loose too much money.
Let me know if you are looking for cheap parts for the Audi A6
Thanx

Re: What should I do??
doesn't make a whole lot of sense. You drove the car up until you were going to go for lunch. So that means that your timing belt or timing for that matter could not have been off since you drove the car up until that point. Now you had the car towed, so it wasn't runing, and the new shop told you that the valves are bent, which the only way that is possible is if the engine was runing with a broken timing belt, which could have occured with the seizing of the water pump, or jumping of the timing belt itself due to loosening up, if the engine was runing sometime between getting towed and been at the shop you towed it to. So, either the timing jumped, or ripped when you tried starting the car and that's when the valves hit the pistons, or the shop you had it towed to messed something up. I bet on something going wrong after the pennzoil shop worked on your car. Anyway, depending on the damage on your engine, it's probably better to fix it instead of swapping for a different one cuz after you do that, there could be a slew of different problems like rejection of the engine by your car's cpu and other related electronics, to leaking of this and that in places you can't even imagine. Re: What should I do??
Your ECU wont reject a new engine, as long as the wiring harness has a sensor to plug into it is happy. Honestly, take it to a reputable independant Audi mechanic, get a second opinion, if the valves are bent, you might as well have a look for a new engine, it would be the cheapest route. If you are mechanically inclined you could just swap out the heads and re-do the timing, as long as the valves didn't smack the pistons you would be OK
