Default synchronizing driver/passenger temp control- '98 - '04 A6

Just in case anyone here hadn't seen my post on other forums on this topic.
Car is an '01 A6 2.7, but, after looking at many pics, all A6's from 1998 - 2004 will have the same climate control sytems offering separate controls for driver and passenger temp. settings with one "auto" button.

Because most of my driving in this car is by myself, I find it annoying to have to set 2 temperatures inside the car each time I change the temperature setting. I would like to have the ability to synchronize the passenger side with the driver side, when I choose, so that I can set one, consistent temp within the car just by changing the setting on the driver side temp screen.

I realize some other model Audis come with a system that has 2 "auto" buttons on their climate control systems and that '05 - '07 A6 models can do this synchronization easily. This is NOT the situation we are dealing with here.

***SEE PIC BELOW and ignore the fact this photo shows an A6 without seat heaters***

THE SYSTEM WE ARE DEALING WITH IN THIS THREAD HAS ONE (1) AUTO BUTTON.

Some A6 owners claim they have been able to do this on their '98 - '04 A6's with some combination of button pressing on the climate control system, but, thus far, nobody can correctly recall what sequence of button pressing enabled them to achieve this synchronization.

Anyone here know how to do this on an '98 - '04 A6?

Default Synchronize

From AudiWorld search: "If you hold down both Auto buttons for a second, it will synchronize the temperature on both sides. Then, if you change the temperature setting on the passenger side, the two temperatures remain in synch. Why the passenger side and not the driver's side, I have no idea..."

hmmm..not sure whether you're just yanking my chain or if you're serious. If you can find "both AUTO buttons" in the above picture, you're a better man than me.

Default Sorry, should have looked closer at the picture.

I don't know how to do it with your particular car. I suppose you tried different methods, such as holding down the auto button for a few seconds and other combinations?

Yes, I've tried a number of different combinations that have been suggested, but, none have been successful thus far and the shop foreman at Glenmore Audi has been looking into it, but again, hasn't been able to come up with an Audi sanctioned method.
