1999 2.8 Quattro. I parked the car outside in a northern Alberta town and we saw -40. When we got the car started, (took a bit of work) fuel was spewing from one injector where the fuel rail connects to the injector.

I had it towed to a heated garage. When everything warmed up, the problem dissapeared.

I'm assuming the extreme cold must have caused the problem. I've ordered new o-rings for the injectors and am hoping this will solve any future problems.

Has anyone else seen the same problem. Anything wrong with my diagnosis?

Yes I have heard of the O rings shrinking at cold weather temps and letting the fuel leak. Happened to a friend of mine as well on an S4!

Yes, my daughter's '99 A4 leaked fuel from a couple injectors when it was colder than -17c. (2.8l engine.) When you cycle the key on and off a couple times, you could smell raw fuel under the hood. Warm up the car, and the problem goes away. Not a big job, any hydraulics shop carries the correct o-rings, just specify Viton material, if you want to do the job yourself.
