Buying a 2000 A6
Hi folks,
I am posting here to ask a brief question about a 2000 A6 2.7 Quattro (I hope I typed that correctly).
I currently am comparing this model to a 1999 Acura TL, which I have owned one in the past. I know the owning costs on the Acura are pretty great, but I was curious to know what I should expect with an Audi.
Also, what are different items I should be aware of when asking the dealership?
The model I am looking at has 135000km for 3500$.
Hope I can get some help!
Thank you

Re: Buying a 2000 A6
Hi there!
Thank you for the answer! I will definitely check to ensure the listed items you gave me are good. Soaked mats would be brutal.
Have you owned a 2000 A6 before? Would you say it's more reliable then a 99 Acura TL (of you have any experience)?
Thanks again

2004 A6 2.7T
That is an older Audi, but has lower kms, and $3500 bucks that's not bad.
1. Timing Belt, I think service is replacement every 115,000km, so that car is due. Its about $1700 bucks at the dealer for the entire kit (Belt, rollers, tensions, water pump, thermo)
2. Cam Seal Leaks.
3. Coil Packs. This is not bad as on the 04, they were easy to change and actually the part relatively inexpensive and if you have mechanical skills and and tools, do it in the garage. I had codes come up for misfires 3 times in its life with me due to coil packs.
4. I heard problems with a torque converter. I never had any issue, but look into it
5. Make sure the oil change history is good. With turbos, maintenance is important.
I parked my Audi however last year, 210,000km, and the steering rack just decided to leak all its fluid, and that a $3000+ dollar job. Then we will see if a weekend car or sell it.
After a good six weeks of looking and testing, picked up a 12 TL 3.7L for my daily/work car, love it, but still too new to it to see, but so far so good.

Re: Buying a 2000 A6
I have a 2001 A6 and just discovered the leaking sunroof drain tubes problem. After reserching this can be quite expensive problem if not fixed and maintained. I am having mine looked at this weekend. But at a local repair shop that is familiar with the problem. Much cheaper than going to the dealer. Honestly if I had known of these problems I would have not gotten the car. It is fun to drive and I enjoy it very much but I can see the headaches that are going to come!
