Default Audi A6 Tranny

Hey everyone,

New member here, and soon to be a 98 Audi A6 2.8 Owner

I have an issue with the A6 , and i have tried to search for answers but no luck.

When dirivng in "d" (tiptronic tranny) the tranny seems to like to stay in 3rd, and not shift up. I can be driving on reletively flat ground and it will go all the way to 4,500RPM and still not shift into 4th (even with my foot off the gas) . Tiptronic works fine, but D hates me

No noise and jerking are present in the tranny and it is intermittant, which is even more of a hassle to deal with!

Has anyone encountered this? would anyone suspect maybe a tranny flush could fix this?

I once had a 98 A6 and the tiptronic was a little weird. I would definately flush it, change the filter and get all the metal filings off the pan. That was the first year for those cars in North America and the first year here for that version of the Tiptronic. I noticed a significant improvement in the Tiptronic when I got a 2000 and even more improvement when I got my current 2003............

Not knowing how long you have owned this car but the tranny does have a bit of a memory. Maybe the previous owner liked booting it in third and the tranny knows this. Sounds wierd but it is true! I intially had the opposite where it would change sooner than later. I replaced the battery and discovered that the tranny lost all its memory so I set it up the way I wanted it. Unfortunately I was heavy footed and occaisionly third wants to rev higher. Mine likes to go over 4,000 rpm before it changes but not all the time. If you want to change it disconnect the battery over night and then hook it up. Drive around as you would like and maybe the car will pick up your style of shifting. It worked for me. Their are write ups about this. Good luck.

^try what he said... if the problem still comes back, try to throw it on a computer to see if it shows any error codes...

I dont think you need to disconnect the battery to reset. Im pretty sure you can do it from inside the car........

No, you need to cut the power and let it sit for a while. I think after several hours all memory is gone! The tranny will work but the memory portion will be deleted. Check Audiworld and go to the search area. I am sure This will assist you. Go to the C5 group. and search.

You might have a stock valve in your tranny or your tip pass in safe mode for i don't know why.
It all ready hapened to me in tip mode. Mine will pass to safe mode each time my car accelerate too fast in first gear and i forgot to shift. AND IT ALWAIS STAYS IN THIRD GEAR in safe mode. Good luck.
