Cool Audi A6 Internal Motion Sensor Button Broken? Dogs go crazy!

My car: 2000 Audi A6 Quattro Avant 2.8

My problem: The internal motion sensor kill switch on the b-pillar has stopped working (the red light fails to turn on : deactivating the internal motion sensor)

The result: I have the dogs in the car. I try and click the kill button (it doesn't work). The car sits idle for about two minutes. Then the car alarm is set off by the dogs inside and they are so scared, poor puppies (or maybe bad owner..)

History: The kill switch has worked for years. At some point the drivers door stopped swinging shut securely. It doesn't make a good connection and the latch doesn't fully catch. It's better in the summer but still inconsistent. I always check the trunk to see if it's fully closed as well as the other doors before trying to activate the kill switch. No luck.

I also checked the fuse #14 if I remember correctly.

The cure: Hopefully you can help me out on this one.

I know it's not the solution, or maybe it is... but why are the dogs in the car and how long are they in it for?

Hey Alex,

I hear your concern. I have two dogs and they typically travel with me a lot. We go for runs in the morning then run an errand myself. I leave the windows open and they're not in the car for very long especially if it's warm (15 min). I live in Halifax, so being hot isn't often, haha. In that case they don't come with me at all. My dogs are my pals.

I don't know if I mentioned this part but my drivers door is not closing properly for a while now. It's like the latch doesn't open or close down fully when the door makes the connection to the frame of the car. (The rectangular hook part). I have to give the door a slight lift when closing the door (if I'm in the car) and when I'm outside the car I have to close the door slowly for it to fully catch.

There was a time when the motion sensor button would work I a pressed down on the latch mechanism while hitting the button. But that has stopped working as well.

Any thoughts?

You can replace the switch that disables the motion sensor, they break easily. It is about $31 for it. Or try putting a piece of tape over the motion sensor to cover it, that may work. Let me know if this actually works, I discussed it with one of my techs.

Hey Alex,

Some success! I wen to Canadian Tire and purchased some "Releaseall" I was going to get WD40 or Jigaloo. I thought about the latch thing in my door. I think during the summer the gummy grease flows easier in the warm weather. When it got cold, that's when my problems started. So this spray cleaned and lubricated the old junk in my latch. It's good for cold weather. After a minute, my door closed easily, slamming the door or slowly closing it. AND the motion sensor button worked again. The latch closure HAS to be related to the motion sensor button. If the latch doesn't open and close fully the motion sensor button will not work. (Well that's my interpretation). I'm just glad it works.
