Default 2.7T Transmission Cooler Lines

I'm doing the timing belt on my '03 Allroad auto and I just discovered that the guide I've been following is for a manual transmission car; I can't remove the front end entirely without disconnecting the transmission cooler lines and there isn't a whole lot of room to work.

My question is, can I disconnect these lines without draining the transmission? I understand that changing the fluid and refilling it to the proper level isn't fun.
