Hey guys,

I have a couple of question that I'm hoping you guys can either answer for me or point me in the right direction. My aunt is planning on coming back to Canada after 5 years in the States, however, before she does, she is planning on buying a new car. I have convinced her that an A4 is a great car and that she should check it out .

- My first question relates to actually bringing the car across the border. Because she has a job in the states, there is no set time line, she wants to know, how long she has to own the car in the states before she has to pay taxes on it when she brings it back to Canada. If anyone knows the answer of can point me to the answer that would be a great help.

- The second question has to deal with the warranty. Is Audi/VW a company that provides a North America wide warranty or is it a strictly USA warranty?

- Finally, is there a way of physically changing out the speedo so that KM/H is the larger font and MPH is the smaller font? Figure that if she will be doing a lot of driving in Canada she may want that. One thought that I had, was since she will be ordering the car, getting the dealer to order the car with a KM/H speedo instead of a MPH? Is that even possible?

As long as she has a US address and registers the car in the US at the time of purchase she should be fine for the purchase side. Now that our regs are more in sync, no issues for getting the car across the border, however she will still have to pay duties and taxes (Registrar of Imported Vehicles) has all that info. bsf5087: Moving Back to Canada has some additional info on how to reduce some of the taxes and duties as well, but since the value will likely be over $10,000 some will have to be paid.

The US Audi factory warranty will apply for the remainder of the time in Canada
