al-gorithm - read houtsaucePK's post. that is precisely what i had to go through. my oil consumption was down to a dismal 300km/1L. did an oil consumption test, in that process i started getting errors constantly about oil level, so they changed the "oil level thermal sensor", and then re-did the oil consumption test which the car failed in spectacular fashion. they changed the seals, valves, etc and then had me monitor the oil consumption again and though it had improved i was looking at about 650-750kms/1L.
they finally decided to take the engine apart and replace the pistons, rings, and some other things that appear on my service record. i guess they decided that the cylinder wall was acceptable i actually did not know about that till i just read hotsaucePK's post.
car is finally consuming oil like a normal vehicle and like the mad machine that it was earlier. i swear i must have spent a few hundred dollars at Canadian Tire just buying up oil preceding this whole thing.
all in all, WARRANTY is all i have to say. you are seriously S.O.L is you do not have it. this process can cost anywhere from $4-6k if you're not replacing the entire engine and as hotsauce mentioned...can be upwards of $10k if you are.
any questions feel free to ask.
Good to hear you got it all fixed.
I bought the car used in August without doing much research, and I was lucky to start researching about it right away on various forums and to find out about this issue and the resolution.
Got new pistons in 2 month into the purchase (still had factory warranty left), and now it is running like a well engineered machine.
I'm going to leave it as stock for another 6 month to monitor any other issues that may rise, and if it's all good, I'm saying goodbye to my CPO warranty (2 years left) and will be starting my mod projects .

mine drank a 1L bottle in 3 weeks. Brought it in to mid town to have it looked at and they said it was borderline, so they are going to do my pistons next week. Hopefully this will solve it.

how many kilometers did you drive in 3 weeks?
If they said it was borderline, then it must had been near 2000 km / 1 L.

Are they doing the pistons right away without doing the tests?
Good for you man, saves some time for sure.

3 weeks is probably close to 1500km for me. nothing extraordinary.

just to clarify, I actually brought it in for the oil consumption test....part 2 was a 1,000KM later. Once that's done, they told me I was borderline for the auto qualification. Booked me in for the replacement, and Bob's your uncle! Some people may consider the oil consumption test is a pain, but after going through it on my 2006 VW Passat, I expected it and had no issues with it.

I hope you pulled the trigger already and bought the car. Do a chip mod as well, you will never ever regret it after that

I'm in the middle of Part 1 right now and I bring it in tomorrow so they can measure the oil consumption over the past 1000km. When I first brought it in, they told me most of the parts in the TSB were replaced when the previous owner had an oil consumption issue..

I am at 950kms into the test and the oil level dropped down all the way to 1/8th of the gauge, just one tick before the light comes on, so I figure the warning light would come on around 1100kms based on the past 5 warning lights I've measured.

I'm hoping it doesn't get sent home with just a car wash lol

P.S. most of my driving is highway. I'm curious to see if it would differ with just city driving.

Are you going into Audi Center Oakville?
I got my pistons changed there.
Mike at the desk knows what he is doing so talk to him if you need to.

Yes, I'm going to Audi Centre Oakville. I've been dealing with Jeff but maybe should talk with Mike if Jeff gives me a hard time.

What was your oil consumption like? I'm thinking I'm .8 or.0L/1000km. I hope they just go direct to step 3 as the Part 2 replacement components were already done previously by the first owner.

My measurement was 0.48L/1000km.
Looks like your is wayyy worse, so they will put you through.
They took measurements of mine AFTER replacing the components, and went straight to pistons after they got the readings.
I think they will go straight in for pistons in your case as well.

Enjoy the loaner

Update - they didn't give me a number but they said it's consuming way too much oil. Booked for Pistons in a couple weeks with a loaner. You called it hotsaucePK! Also, they're checking the cylinder walls for scoring (replacement engine!!!) and the turbo for some reason, that I'm not sure why.

3 days they said but could be longer but I don't mind if it's a good loaner lol

Thanks for the help and support everyone!

Over on the BMW side, my nephew's 5 series vanos assemblies came free. bolts backed out and fell down inside, the last one sheared. Car comes to a stop halfway into his parking spot at work. $9,000 repair, a month out of warranty. BMW picked up the tab.
