Re: My imported a4- drl won't pass riv inspection
I just received an A4 2009 Convertible from Miami . It won't pass RIV inspection at Canadian Tire ; regulations require DRL to go on automatically .US models do not and have on/off button. I talked to two Ottawa Audi dealers and Audi Canada customer service. They say they don't have software to modify it and are no help at all. They don't even know if an aftermarket DRL kit can be insalled. Surely someone has recently imported an Audi and had similar issue . i can't licence and drive it ! help

Re: My imported a4- drl won't pass riv inspection
Ok, you guys are reading way to far into this and way too many BS guesses. The B7's come with a DRL switch if imported from the US, does not matter how you reprogram it the switch bypasses the programing. You need to bypass the DRL switch, in order for the programing to take effect and work the way it is supposed to. That is your only solution and it is very simple.
No Canadian tire switch required, just unhook the 2 wired pieces and connect them together using a little metal insert that you can get at autovalue.

Re: My imported a4- drl won't pass riv inspection
FYI: It is in Module 09: Central Electronics and the coding is only 0004, If you dont have a light sensor or xenon headlights. Only the last digit should be changed to a 4 which corresponds to Canada as a Country code

Did you not read that he has a B7? Switches were implemented after the B6.

Experience importing an 09 A4 -RIV drl issues
For those who may benefit I will outline my recent frustrating experience getting my Audi on the road in Canada :
I bought an 09 white A4 convertible (10,000 miles) from Prestige Auto in North Miami by phone , sight unseen , from Alex Yepes , very helpful salesman. In CDN funds I paid $31,579 on Nov 1 , 2010 . I sent them a bank draft. It was mint as they said it was.
Alex at Prestige told me to contact Bluestar Automovers Customer Service and use Yuri , Prestiges owner , as the reference. Bluestar was very helpful. They contacted Delmar International as the broker .Delmar & Bluestar were professional . I paid fees by Visa - fax. Bluestar $1500 - Delmar $250. I highly recommend the three parties invovled. I paid Delmar 6.1% duty and GST by Visa (3% fee) to pay Canada Customs. I paid RIV over the phone $200 for federal inspection by Visa.
Because of being out of town alot I wasn't able to receive the Audi until Dec. 13 ; it arrived by carrier to my door in Ottawa. All papers were with the driver . Now the headaches begin:
Ontario MTO will not give you a temp trip permit for imported vehicles to run the car around to inspections. How you drive it around and be insured is your problem. ( I now recommend having the car delivered to Can Tire not your home) .
Canadian Tire would not pass RIV until the Driving Lights (DRL) went on with ignition - no on /off switch permitted as US models have. Can Tire will not touch Audi electronics. Can Tire did the safety and emissions inspections for $120.
Both Ottawa Mark Motors Audi dealers refused to make the modification and referred me to Audi Canada CSR. Audi Canada took three days but finally said I had to take it to Montreal Automobile L'Auzon who can reprogram the computer for DRL . Its 200 kms away . Audi said the Ottawa dealers had too many problems. Very frustrating and unhelpful people.
Problem Solved thanks to Audi Forum posts . Jason Bowles , Ottawa Tapp Auto high performance shop did the reprogram but that does not stop turning the DRL on /off using the switch , meaning it won't pass RIV. I gave Jason the Audi Forum messages . He removed the DRL switch and disconnected it. Problem solved for $20 . Jason was the most helpful and informed person I've met.
Canadian Tire passed RIV. MTO licensed it . I was surprised I had to pay PST on the 6.1 % duty too at MTO . Next time I will get the DRL switch disactivated in the US and get the car delivered to Can Tire. Taxes and fees in , the car cost me $40,000 CDN . It was worth it but for a while I thought I'd bought a lawn ornament that I could't licence. I'm loving my A4 .

Where in the world do you go 260 on our roads? or 280? If honestly you have done that on a public road you are an IDIOT! Risking your life is your problem, but other peoples lives its not funny for the slightest matter. You should just log off Audiforum and never log back in if you are this dumb
