Hey Guys,

I washed my car today and noticed a some stains that I can't get out. Looks like something dripped like paint. It's a grayish colour. 2 drops on the hood and several on the bottom front passenger side bumper. my car is white so these gray spots are very noticeable.

i tried using comet and a ceramic glass top scrubber on the bumper to try and it removed 1 stain but i don't want to use that on the hood. any idea?!?

i purchased the exterior paint car package with my car. would the dealer fix it?

Try using a detailing clay with a lubricant (Quick detailer, soapy water). Mothers and Megiaurs make kits and you can find these at Canadian tire.

If that does not work, being EXTREMELY CAREFUL, soak acetone on a tip of a cotton swap (Q-tip) and slowly turn the swap on the stain. Try to minimize clear coat contact as much as possible. Re-soak the acetone on a new swab once the previous one is dry. Wash the area with proper car soap once done, adding sealant or wax.

If those don't work, might have to get a light abrasive car polish, use as directed.
But put away your house hold comet and scrubbers because you will for sure swirl and damage the paint and clear. Then you will have an even bigger problem.

i've taken paint splash on my car with nail polish remover. But like awcjacobs says, be very careful with the clear coat.

claybar's are good for getting exhaust res off thats been blasted on to your car. like awcjabobs said, canadian tire has several kits ranging from 20-40 bucks. my buddy and i used a clay kit for hit lotus and it was good as new.

and put the comet away, its your car! and to reiterate jacobs acetone on q-tip idea. acetone is extremely corrosive and could strip ure clear coat right off if u put too much on. i personally would go with a a light abrasive, but again, use caution and test on inconspicuous area of ure car before doing any more work, i'd hate to see u mess up ure paint.

I have also had great success with Mother's clay-bar....which I picked up at the local Canadian Tire......have not used it on my Audi however it worked great on removing winter surface contamination from our Grand Cherokee (those tiny little rust colored spots that can occur in the clearcoat after a few Ottawa winters!)

Any chance of some photos to see what the problem looks like? I am having a difficult time determining the scope of the issue. If it is what I think it is, some rubbing compound may work but this can leave scratches behind which means other treatments to remove the scratching caused by the rubbing compound. So it can be a catch 22. If proceeding this route try the most inconspicuous area first!

You could always try an automotive detail shop or a paint restoartion shop used by the insurance co's for their professional touch. Should be a lot cheaper than a hood repaint.

i'll take some pics of the spots this weekend. when i leave the house for work in the morning it's dark and by the time i get home it's dark.

i'll call the dealer tomorrow too to find out if my exterior car protection will cover the repair.

i should also mention that if i run my hand over the spots, i don't feel anything. it's almost like it's embedded into the paint now. i used clay bar on it but nothing happens (unless i have to keep rubbing for 30 min)...

Sorry guys, been a busy weekend.

Here's the latest on my mystery spots (I took pictures, but left them on my digicam at home. I'm useless, I know...)

Anywho, I visited the dealer Saturday morning. Told the service rep that I have spots on my hood and front bumper that aren't coming out after wash/clay. He asked me to drive the car through the drive through.

He took a look at it and said he'd have to contact their area (paint expert I think it was). I asked if it was covered, he said yes because it's covered under Audi warranty. I told him I purchased the exterior protector, he said this is totally different. Since the spots are below the paint, Audi will probably have to re-spray the hood/bumper FOR FREEEEE!!!

Regardless, I'm a happy camper. Reason number 10 to buy an Audi: Instantly relieves your stress.

Thanks guys for all your help and input. Will follow up after I get it fixed. He said probably around the month or so because the dude only comes in every 4 weeks or so.
