Fuel Grade, my first time with Audi
Hi guys, this is my first time with Audi, or a non-Japanese car.
Audi Quattro 2.0 premium tiptronic
What fuel grade do you use? Is 91 critical? Or is it just good to have?
What happens if you drive with 87 fuel long run?
Aside, what kind of special care do you need to keep the car in shape for at least a good 8 years?
Thanks !

Re: Fuel Grade, my first time with Audi
honestly its been proven that using lower grade fuel will not damage modern day engines as they can change the timing to adapt to the change in octane.
But you lose performance and fuel economy with the lower octane. So some say that you pay less for the lower octane gas(87) but then end up spending the same as using premium(91) because of the loss of mileage, and you dont get the performance.
so you might as well just use premium

Re: Fuel Grade, my first time with Audi
lower octane is not good. the higher the octane the harder it is to burn. Audi turbo engines are designed for 91 and above because of the combustion temperature. Using lower grade will create premature combustion creating a misfire in the cylinder. AKA YOur engine will die pretty quick.
So use 91 or higher, if you plan to keep it like you said for 8 years or so use synthetic oil, your ride will feel more responsive and it will be running the way it should be.
On that note i got a place that does synthetic oil change for me for 65$ you guys have anybody that does it for lower?

Re: Fuel Grade, my first time with Audi
i have to disagree with all of this.. Do You Really Need Premium?
"Now, sensors take readings and tune the engine as you drive by adjusting the timing for whatever fuel you put in the tank."
"Volvo cars call for "premium fuel [91 octane or better] for optimum performance and fuel economy," said Wayne Baldwin, product/segment manager for the S60/S80. "However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using 87 octane, as the knock sensors and engine management system 'protect' the engine from knocking."
