A4/S4 buying advice
So I'm considering a return to the Audi game after previously having a 99 A4 and an 05 A4 USP. I'd be in the market for a B8 A4, or an S4 if I can convince my wife that the extra money is worth the fun.
I've just started reading about the oil consumption issues plaguing the A4. Is this extremely common? Should I be making sure the fix has been done before purchase? Any other major maintenance that I should be looking out for?
Same deal with the S4, any issues with the 3.0 or 2.7 engines I should know about?
Also looking at possibly an Impreza or Legacy. AWD obviously.
Thanks in advance!

Re: A4/S4 buying advice
This doesn't directly answer your question, but I bought a 2010 certified pre-owned 3 years ago. Mine didn't have any problems, but since it was certified pre-owned it came with a good warranty if anything bad were to happen.
When I bought mine I first test drove a new one and really liked it. It felt quick and snappy to me, but I decided to get a preowned instead. I test drove 5 certified pre-owned a4's from the various Audi dealerships around the GTA. I found a HUGE variation in the performance between them, they were all the same year and transmission however even my wife could feel the difference in how they perform. I would recommend test driving several of them yourself so that you get a feel for this as well, and you'll know when you find a good one. I'm not sure if there is a relation, but I haven't had any problems with oil consumption.
BTW - Test drive the S4, I took out a friends S4 three weeks after I bought my A4 and was super pissed at myself for not testing the S4 when I was shopping. I would have ended up with an S4 for sure. It is an awesome car! I love my A4, but would have loved the S4 more.

Re: A4/S4 buying advice
We just bought a 2014 A4 S-Line! 35000km on it. Rebuilt title after it was rear ended, but had it looked at by a few people and it seems good. Get it on Tuesday or Wednesday. Owner has been driving it for 1.5 years after the fix and no issues
