Thumbs down Re: A4 High Oil Consumption: Mark Motors Says it's normal

HI I posted a few years ago about my 2007 A4 having a high oil consumption. After seals being replaced and being told this was normal (1L/1000km) I kept on the program. Recently, at 105000 km my car started to make some weird noises. I brought it to the mechanic and he had to replace the serpentine belt with tensionnors (apparently these should last to 190000km) and now have just replaced my Turbo (almost $3000.00) ouch. Guess what they found in my intercooler? Leaked oil!!!!! My mechanic now tells me he believes it is only a matter of time until my new turbo goes again. When he called and asked at the dealership Owasco Audi about it they responded that they never have turbo problems, but did have a replacement turbo in stock. What a joke of customer service this company has since of course, now my car is no longer under warranty and I listened to them originally. All who are using oil may want to have these mechanical parts checked now. Do not give in to their comments of this is normal!
From a very dissatisfied customer.

Really sorry to hear about your bad experience with not only the dealership but with the car. I hope this does not take you away from the brand and being an enthusiast.

Sorry to hear about your disappointment with MM - Definitely best to talk to Liza at Hunt Club if service isnt what you expect it to be.

Although I've personally never had a consumption problem in any of my 5 Audis (two 1.8's as well as a B7 S4 and B7 RS4), both my GF and my bro have B7 A4's that do seem to burn oil. My GF's needs a top up every couple of months (MM tells her this is normal too) and if convenient for her to drop by, they take care of it no charge (Montreal Rd.). Since it just needed a top up, I picked up some more Mobil Synth from Crappy Tire (On sale at 25% off). No question that a low km car that burns oil is suspect and most would agree that it shouldnt be considered normal ...

Folks,

I'm curious......

My 2002 A4 1.8T Quattro Manual has no indications of excessive oil consumption, about half a litre every 3 months (normal by my books).

Is it the B7's and the B8's that are having these problems??? or do the B6 models have them as well? Even then, are they only the B6 2.0T engines and more recent that are having these issues or what??? Just trying to narrow things down to the exact model, year and engine type as in few years I want to be a B8 A3 Quattro Manual.

Hey Shamuson,

We have a 2009 A4 that had the same "issue". I would put a liter of oil for every ~ 1000 km. I also thought it was pretty weird to have such a high oil consumption, and brought it to Mark's Motors to get it checked-up. They told us everything was good with the vehicle, and that it was normal for these motors to drink that much. Quite oddly, at the 25,000km mark (or whichever service some at such point), the oil level became normal, and never had another other oil consumption problems!

Mark Motors have always provided us with great service, through-out all the cars we have purchased from them! We also do business with them on our side (we own a sign shop / decal shop in Aylmer, Qc. ), and they are amazing people to deal with.

If ever you experience bad service or have any issues, you need to speak to either Michael Mrak ( Montreal Road ) or Liza Mrak (Hunt Club) and they will assure themselves your receive the proper deserved service, guaranteed! Also, Paul at the Service in Montreal Road is of great-help, and super understanding!

Having read all the oil burning stories I felt it necessary today to check the oil. I have just completed the MMI version complete with its 2 minutes of sitting by one's self in the cold garage, the analogue version not being possible because the dip stick hole seems to be plugged by a little black stubby thingy. Question: where do we find a dip stick for something less than the price of a Chev? I confess I am assuming Audi has a fancy notion of what they would charge.

My dealer charged me about $45 or twice the ECS price. But when you add the $30 shipping it's a wash..unless you want to include some other stuff at the same time. I just ordered a few oil filters, exhaust tips, emergency triangle, etc, and the shipping is the same.

Both good tips. ECS is out of stock but expecting more in March. They have an auto-notify feature. Shipping to eastern Canada is $23.
