E90 chassis Bimmers are notorious for overheating! The 335i is a twin turbo so checking for turbo related items is also a must! Check for signs and run VIN with dealer for service history at the least. Vandalism could be a number of this. Could be minor or could be major. I wouldn't trust Car report, Carfax or others that much as I have heard of "Katrina cars" coming inot Canada with clear titles. Best thing to do when contemplating a used vehicle is to get a proper PPI done from a reputable shop. Good luck and hope things turn out to your advantage!

EDIT: I just looked at the report and $3,000+ damage could've been from an attempted theft. When my hubby's M3 was broken into, the repair cost to the door lock, door, etc. amounted to nearly as much as that listed on the report. But then again, it could be any other reason as well. Just thought I'd share my $0.02!

hmm sorry can you explain how vandalism is related to the twin turbo/overheating??

i plan on taking it to a BMW dealer to get a pre-purchase inspection, but would you say this is enough?

is it unusual for the car to be taken into service this often? the dealer said its a good thing, people do this if its free service from lease, and twice a year for winter tires

They're not! If you read my post again, I was merely suggesting other points to inspect in these type of cars.

I wouldn't worry too much on how frequent the vehicle had been in the shop. It's why it was there that should be your concern! I don't exactly know the servicing schedules for an E92 335i would be but with the current mileage on the car, I would think that it has gone through atleast the scheduled Service 1 (approx every 45,000kms or so in an e46 M3 atleast!) and possible for recall items and such. As I had stated in my previous post, run the VIN from your local dealer to get a detailed copy of the service history. Or check to see if the book is still with the vehicle and compare the dates from that with the report. Hope this helps!
