Hey all,

In the user manual, it describes the audio system in the A4 has a default minimum volume setting. If my previous volume setting is below this threshold, next time I start up my car, the volume will default to this minimum setting.

Unfortunately, this minimum volume is rather loud to my standard and it always wakes my baby up. Is there anyway to further reduce the minimum volume in the system?

Further more, is there anyway to set it so that when I start the car, the audio system stays off?

My 2008 had it. My 2011 - i haven't been able to find it.

Strange that it would be a default MINIMUM... My 2006 has a default max. setting such that if you shut the car off with the volume loud it will come on quieter next start at the preset default. Why would they design a default minimum?

In the manual it has a process to set the turn on volume. However when I tried the set up it did not work as described. I went back to the dealer and had them try to set it up but they had the same result. After having a Tech look at it , the only way to set it was through the maintenance computer,(VAGCOM), they set it to the level I wanted and now when the radio is turned on it is at this level, if I mute the radio no matter what volume level, when I unmute it it returns to the turn on level I had the Tech set. I inquired why the set up in the manual would not work and no one could give me an answer.

If the radio is turned off when you turn off the car it should not come on when you restart your car. Remember to turn off the radio you must press and hold the on/off button till the radio turns off, a quick press of the on/off button will only mute the radio. Hope this helps.

My '08 had this feature and it was a snap to set up, not sure why the '12 doesn't.
