Default 2010 A4 Oil Consumption

I just picked up a Certified Pre-owned 2010 A4... with 34,500 km.

Sorry for the newbie question, but would 1.0L of oil per 2400 km be considered "normal".

The manual says that 0.5 L per 1000 km is "normal", so I guess I fall within "normal", but it does seem excessive since my 2001 Saturn doesn't burn a drop.

Thoughts?

Well it is partially normal... Do yourself a favour and use only Mobil 1 0/40 oil.. Use nothing else and generally the car will use almost no oil till you have about 7,000 km on the oil change. Yes these engines use oil, it is a fact you must live with. Your Saturn is no hi tech engine, just watch your oil level, I drive with a bottle of Mobil 1 in the car around as you cannot buy it everywhere. Do not use Castrol which the dealers often use.

I was shocked when I first got my 2010 A4 as I went only 6 months & then had to add a litre of oil. It has been consistent after that no matter how much or little I drive. Using the diagnostic on oil level may not be the best except to prepare you for when you need to add a litre. I looked at the oil level and it showed no fill. I added a litre and rechecked the level. It gave me a message about no information available. I almost took it in to the dealer but decided to wait. After a couple of weeks, it was showing maximum oil. Moral is keep checking but wait until the add oil warning comes on before topping up. What ever happened to the dipstick?

My local dealership did an oil consumption test, determined it was above normal and changed my pistons with 2012 pistons. My 2010 doesn't burn a drop now.

Thanks Matt. Obviously you have a better dealership than I do. I was told this is normal using at least 1 litre between service.

Hello fellow Audi drivers.
After google'ing my problem I arrived at this forum to join.

Well on Dec.31/2013, I decided to trade in my 2007 Infiniti G35X for the Audi A4 2010. I purchased the used vehicle from VLCI in Unionville -- previously a leased car.
This is the first German I car I have owned. All previous cars have been Japanese and American.

Jan.15/2014 - Literally after 2 weeks driving, 518 Km, the oil light came on. I'm assuming that the car had the oil topped up when I picked it up on Dec.31st.
I contacted the dealer and had the car taken in. The mechanic checked the car and also advised that it was normal for this engine to consume oil but only 1 liter between oil changes.

I have decided to document this and on Jan.21st I have sent an email to the general manager at the dealer. I was advised to contact the mechanic directly which I did.
The mechanic has advised that an oil consumption test needs to be done, and so at the next oil light I am supposed to bring the car in. I have been monitoring this and it looks like this is going to happen this Monday, approx. 600 km, the light should illuminate!

From all that I have read, it is a bit of a put-down to know that this vehicle, being more expensive/quality than an Infiniti would have such issues. This should definitely have been a recall from Audi.

Before making my decision between the Audi and the Mercedes C-300, I only watched the general car reviews on You tube. The Audi came on top.
There are some nice features that the Audi 2010 has over the Infiniti G35X 2007, but let me tell you, I had absolutely no issues or trouble with the Infiniti. The nice feature the Infiniti has is the fob, being in my pocket I can open the door and start the engine.

Anyway, I'm going to be patient and see how this issue rides out, and keep you'll informed.

Thanks....your feedback is welcome.

I have a love/hate relationship. I traded a Lexus IS350 for the one year old A4. The 350 was RWD and was not good in the winter. The traction control was too sensitive. Bit otherwise it was a great car. The Quattro is amazing but the oil consumption, and a blown water pump after only 2 months of ownership have not been fun. And now I get told by my local dealership that my battery is not good. It has started at -30C without any problem but the radio won't come back on when I restart it. They want $300 for it. It starts, I have to turn on the radio. So be it. The other issue is he seats. Can't get comfortable. Not the best under leg support for long trips.

Yeah, I know. I too was looking around for the dip stick!
Finally had to ask the mechanic. There is no dip stick, but there is a dipstick that the mechanics use which goes in through where the oil is inserted just for their needs/trouble shooting etc.

There are soooo many of us in the same boat as u! see my thread with topic "2009 a4 heavy oil consumption.. need help!"

You are right they should have done a recall on these... its really sad bc the car looks and drives beautifully -get compliments like no tomorrow- but deep down inside only I and the car knows whats happening...
Few of us should really get together to make a real complaint to Audi.. Were all located in GTA mainly let me know what you think.
