Default 2009 A4 - Audi special offers - 2.9%, $0 payments

I am planning on purchasing a 2009 A4 Premium and would like to know if anyone has taken advantage of the Special Offers which Audi is advertising.

2.9% financing
$0 first month payment
$0 second month payment

My dealer is telling me that I'm eligible for everything except the $0 second month payment (i.e. I would only receive 0$ for the first payment). He wasn't clear on the reasons, but I'm assuming it's because I'm not paying full MSRP.

Does the dealer have an option to deny this Audi special offer to their customers? Reading the fine print on the Audi web site, it doesn't provide any indication why I wouldn't be eligible. As long as the vehicle is in the list of eligible products (the A4 B8 is) and payment don't exceed the limit (mine payment would be < $500/month - so I'm assuming this is eligible).

I would expect that Audi will fully reimburse the dealer, so I'm not sure why the dealer would avoid offering this discount. Unless, the dealer is only reimbursed for the first payment and the second payment is their cost - in which case I should probably look for a dealer who isn't so cheap.

The special is that AC pays for one and the dealer pays for the other payment. If you have a low enough deal that there's no room for the dealer to give you the payment, they'll ask for it in advance.
They are right!

Thanks for the info.

I did make the purchase, but the dealership did their best to avoid the discounts.

Before heading to the dealership in Regina to make the purchase, I wanted to verify that I was eligible for all the advertised Audi discounts despite the dealership insisting I wasn't - so I called Audi Canada as well as e-mailing them for documentation.

Audi Canada disagreed with the dealer on a few points:

1) The Audi Supplier program (or any other discount for that matter) is to be used in addition to the $0 first payment and $0 second payment.

2) The 2.9% financing is also available alongside the Audi Supplier program discounts.

3) The dealer cannot refuse to honour the Audi special offers despite any other discounts negotiated.

4) Even though the dealer picks up the cost of one of these payments, the Audi dealership must comply with the program or state that they are not a participating dealer in this special Audi offer. My dealership hadn't stated they were not participating.

The dealer indicated that they didn't know any of this. They only acknowledged their obligations after reading the e-mail I received from Audi Canada which described their requirements.

Even after receiving this information, the dealership indicated the $1000 discount I had negotiated (in addition to the 7% Audi Supplier program discount) had been agreed to without the knowledge that the Audi special offer existed. Therefore, the unexpected additional cost prevented them from agreeing to the negotiated price.

This is where it gets complicated.

They said they would sell me the car only if I would agree to make the second payment despite Audi Canada's offer of two free payments.

Since, I had been back and forth negotiating prices with the dealership for over a week, I decided it wasn't woth the effort to try to avoid a single payment. So I reluctantly agreed.

This is where it gets funny.

In order to appear to have offered the customer two free payments (as required by Audi Financial Services), they added one of my payments to the price of the car. This effectively increased the sale price of the car by the amount of my payment. They then structured the financing so I wouldn't have to make the first two payments (in reality only 1 payment was free, but Audi won't know....).

I should have argued the point a bit more, but I was in a rush and had already been at it for an hour. I feel like I got taken - but I guess I'll get over it.

By the way.......the car looks great and I pick it up tomorrow after they finish applying the 3M stoneguard. Can hardly wait!

It's an Ibis white, Audi A4 2.0T Premium, fully loaded, Navi, ADS, B&O, Tech package, rear air bags.

Getting a new car is great! It's just all the bullshit to get it. The last new car purchase I bought was such a pain in the ***. I felt like I got taken for months but the joy of driving the car took over. Enjoy and if you can buy used next.

All of these makes sense and it is correct. Even the part where they added the one month to the price of the car.
I'm pretty sure you worked out a good deal for yourself.

Congratulations!

Congrats Bradaudi!!

May I ask how much you paid? I placed an order for the same vehicle and got it for $51 500 plus taxes. Seems like I could have gone lower but like you I was fed up with the negotiating and just bit the bullet.

Congrats again!!

Congrats, Brad! Looking forward to seeing the new machine on the streets. Smart move on the stone guard. It's already paid for itself on my current Audi. Are you planning to tint the windows? It looks hot on your car!

Bummer about the miscommunication and lack of understanding from the dealership. My experiences with them so far have been good. It doesn't necessarily make it right, but I'm sure the enjoyment of your new car will far outweigh the grief at the dealership.

Picked the A4 B8 up today. I was happy with the service at the dealership and the walkthrough they did on the car. The 3M Stoneguard looks perfect - had to look twice to even see it.

I've spent a bit of time driving the A4 today and am really enjoying it. Good performance, great handling, and lots of toys. It's still too early to give a full review though.

I do want to tint the windows. I've had a number of people recommend that - except the wife who doesn't care for it - so I thought I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and try without first. I'm still not sure on the tint combination, but I'm leaning towards 50% on front and back side windows (maybe darker, 35% for the back window).

Rolls167 - I just checked the numbers and my final price for the vehicle after all discounts was dealer invoice + $1099. That's not including the first free payment, which would bring it to dealer invoice + $599. Had I been able to get the second payment free as well - I'd be at dealer invocie + $99. But, I didn't, and I'm over that now.

Here's the Canadian invoice prices that I'm basing these numbers on:

Retail Price* Wholesale Price**
Base $43,500.00 $39,846.00
Freight $800.00 $800.00
Optional equipment selected
- FEDERAL AIR CONDITIONING EXCISE TAX (-EXTAX) $100.00 $100.00
- PDI CHARGE *PDI amount may vary - see local dealer for more information* (-PDI) $849.00 $849.00
- SPORT PKG -inc: 18" 10-spoke alloy wheels w/245/40R18 high performance tires, sport steering wheel, sport seats, sport suspension (PPS) $1,800.00 $1,638.00
- TECHNOLOGY PKG -inc: Audi side assist, adaptive headlights, Homelink, advanced key w/start button (PTC) $2,200.00 $2,002.00
- BANG & OLUFSEN SOUND SYSTEM (9VK) $1,100.00 $1,001.00
Totals including all items above $50,349.00 $46,236.00
*Retail Price - Also referred to as the M.S.R.P. or Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price or Retail Factory Price. The price the dealer wants you to pay.

** Wholesale Price - Also referred to as the Dealer Invoice Price, Dealer Factory Price or Dealer Cost. The price the dealer pays for the car, before adjusting for any applicable Factory Incentives. Glad to hear you are enjoying your new ride. I was tempted to get an avant myself, but all of the options I wanted (S Line package) aren't available on that model in Canada.

Custom Auto Shield (the company that does their stone guard) really does do an amazing job in making the 3M truly disappear on the car.

I tinted the back windows all at 35% and the driver and passenger front side windows 50%. This will give a bit of an idea of how dark it is, although I believe it appears darker on a smaller, darker car with a dark interior. (Don't mind the dirt, it's clean now!)

I know they just tinted the white S5 that the GM is driving as well. It's the same as mine (50/35) but might give you a better idea of how the tint will look on a white car.
