Default Vag-com cable

I know it might be a repeated question m but I would like to know what is the best Vag-com cable and software I can get for my 2006 A4, and is it worth it or the 20$ eBay one will do the job, plus what you really can do with the cable, is it worth it to have it and learn how to use it or not, thanks for any input

I think 2006 use "CAN" connection(just a different protocol) where as the eBay $20 cable uses older protocol. It might not work with your car. I have a 1998 A4 and this cheap cable works fine. You can do a lot if you're a DIY type. From basic settings (ex: resetting service reminders, clearing the codes) to more sophisticated stuff.

I've got one of the cheap ebay ones and I'm pretty sure it DOES have the CAN connection. I've used it a few times, works fine.

Did you specifically ordered the CAN cable or just the regular $15 cable - because mine is just a cheap $15 and I haven't tried mine on any CAN based vehicles. And which version of the VAGCOM are you using?

I have a 2007 A4 2.0T Quattro and I'm new to Audi. I'm very fascinated with the VAG-COM software. I'm reading up on this cable interface. I see on EBAY that this cable I can obtain but it doesn't connect with the A4 (B7) model I'm thinking I might have a B7 model, how can I be sure?

Thanks.

Best cable is the Ross-Tech one and it includes the license for the software. I have it and it works great; has paid for itself with diagnosis of coil pack issues on my B6. Also allowed me to change other settings on my B6 & B7 (chime, lights). I've also helped out other VW & Audi owners here in Vancouver; I just ask them for some Root Beer to help offset the cost.

Used it to log Vancouver Audi Club (http://www.vancouveraudiclub.ca) members cars to give them an idea of the impact of their performance mods.

Go to the Ross-Tech: Home site to find the Canadian distributors; I got mine from Roseland with free shipping; arrived in 3 days from order. The latest version of the VCDS software works under both Vista and Windows 7.
