replacing halogen lights with HID
Hey guys
2006 a4
anyone replace their halogen bulbs with HID replacements that sellers are offering on ebay
Any recommended sellers that you have bought from
or any particular brand of bulb that is better than others
cheers
after looking around on ebay I found these for an 06 a4
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/8500K...spagenameZWDVW
can anyone offer any insight into these, they just require a bulb change and no kits, wiring, harnesses etc.
thanks

Re: replacing halogen lights with HID
There's a group of people that will probably jump on you for the difference in optics which can result in glare...
Not familiar with it myself but I AM interested to do it; I've seen $300 MTEC kits which claim to be computer friendly and then $50 kits which seems awful cheap. I've heard warnings about wiper motors and codes, but it's always seemed second hand.
Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of if this is a feasible mod (admittedly not best case, but I just called my local Audi and they quoted ~$3200 parts only for factory xenons, and I think that was without the bulbs).

Dont go with factory xenons not worth it in my opinion even if you get a ebay kit for $50 and u have to replace it every 6months with a new one its still way cheaper then oem.. i would recomend you guys go on your local kijiji or craigslist and find someone selling kits locally i got mine for 150 and warranty for a year so if anything goes wrong within that year i jus call up the guy drive down to his house and get the replacement parts. If you buy online your gonna spend a lot of time waiting to get any replacement parts and pay shipping and probably duty fees.

So the MTEC kits @ $300 aren't necessary? My biggest concern is damaging something or throwing codes... If any old kit will work in a halogen housing, that's great, I was worried I'd need something like this:
eBay Motors: MTEC EXCLUSIVE HID KIT FOR AUDI A4 B6 B7 '02~ (item 360128063189 end time Feb-05-09 23:21:40 PST)

Haven't done any aftermarket HID kits in my A4, but had no problem putting them in my '07 avalanche, which was a regular halogen housing. Kit was bought locally here for $179 and came with a 18 month warranty. Since I sold the Avalanche my dad has put them in his Volvo semi, been workin great!

I have used those before, all sorts of manufacturers, years and years ago before HID was common (eurolite, PIAA, MTEC, and others) and would say that HID is orders of magnitude better.
