Question about lowering Base Suspension vs S-Line Suspension
Hey guys, hoping you can help me out with this question.
I'm running a base model B7 and I'm looking at lowering it because I'm not a fan of the 4x4 look. I've seen lots of s-line/sport suspension A4's around and I am not unhappy with the drop, but I wouldn't mind a little lower either (I've had previous non-audi cars dropped).
My question is this:
When checking various website for coilovers (ECStuning for example), it says the average drop. To stick with an example, one of them says 'average lowering of 1.3"-2.2"F 1.2"-2.0"R'.
I understand the Front vs Rear, but the range is what I am questioning.
Would this be dependant on which suspension you are starting with? So like if I buy that kit for my base suspension, I would see a drop of 2.2"F and 2.0"R? But if someone with the s-line suspension buys that kit they would only see 1.3"F and 1.2"R?
I'm not sure of the height difference between base model suspension and s-line/sport model suspension, but eyeballing it would tell me it is about the difference based on the above.
Can anyone clarify this for me?
Thanks.
D
Edit: I JUST realized that it was coilovers that I was looking at, so that explains the range. Duh. But I guess my question still applies.. if my base suspension starts out say 1" higher than an s-line, wouldn't the average drop be different between models?

Re: Question about lowering Base Suspension vs S-Line Suspension
Best to ask the supplier what their baseline comparison point is. I suspect it would be a stock vehicle, as that way their marketing impact looks to be much larger. S-Line sports vs stock is approx 20mm lower from the factory.

Thanks a4audi4fun.. I figured I would need to ask the manufacturer that question.
To follow-up on the s-line suspension, is it just springs that differentiate between base and s-line? I have not looked into it at all yet, but if the drop is going to be about the same, I wonder if it would be cheaper to get a used set of s-line suspension.

Factory sport shocks and springs are different than stock (red vs black colour is the visual cue).
Used sports should definitely be the least expesive route - check classifieds on all the forums and other lists like craigslist; they show up everynow and then.

Re: Question about lowering Base Suspension vs S-Line Suspension
I'm in the same boat. I'm really enjoying the comfort of the non-sport 4x4, but it looks awful. Next spring I might see if I can find a lightly used S-Line setup for my B7 avant, but I'd do the B5 caps mod where it lowers the front just a little more than the stock s-line setup, 1/2" more drop I think.

What is this B5 cap mod that you speak of? Any links?
I find my car sits a little higher in the back than the front, so I figure the offset drop of most kits will sit it pretty evenly.
Not sure the s-line suspension will be possible for me as I'm in Halifax and used parts like that are not abundant.
