Default Engine Compartment Cover - Needed?

Hi guys,

My used A4 2006 2.0T Q came without the engine compartment cover (not the engine itself just the top part - rain kit and the battery cover (Audi B7 A4 Quattro 2.0T > Engine > Covers > ES#6771 Engine Compartment Cover Kit - 8E0198000 - this one)

at ECS Tuning it's $80 for a new kit - how badly do I really need it? Can I wait around until the winter and maybe hunt for a cheaper cover at a scrap yard or do I really need to drop 80 bucks on it right now?

Thanks!

$80 isn't bad.... it does clean up the interior engine compartment. I don't think it will cause any issues if you leave it off.

Thanks for the replies. $80 bucks doesn't sound much, but I'd rather fix my A/C problem now and get my cam follower checked again, maybe even change the timing belt before i can spend money on stuff that's might not be srictly necessary..

North America MY2008 A4's didn't include that part either. I think it's a purely a cosmetic piece that has been dropped for cost reasons. If you look at the metal area, just in front of the battery, you'll see it has a rubber moulding on top of it. When the hood is closed the engine compartment is relatively sealed off by that anyway so the presence of the extra cover isn't going to change airflow one iota.
