CPO Warranties Purchased from the USA
Today I found out from my local Audi Dealer that American CPO warranties (Certified Pre-Owned) are NON-transferable from Americans to Canadians. So this is a warning to those looking to purchase a vehicle in the USA that the rules have changed.
1. Where you once were able to pay a $150 transfer fee to transfer the remaining balance of a CPO warranty from a third party seller to yourself, you no longer can if the car was purchased in the USA by a Canadian.
2. AUDI dealerships are no longer allowed to sell CPO vehicles to Canadians and haven't been allowed to for a number of months now. If they do sell you a CPO vehicle, the warranty can and will be honored in Canada, but it potentially puts the dealer into some hot water.
I found out #2 the hard way. My local Audi dealer was giving me some push back today pointing to a letter they had gotten from Audi regarding point #1 (Which didn't apply to me because I purchased from a dealer). I called Audi to get to the bottom of this and found out that I am covered. They wanted to know the name of the dealership of which I purchased the vehicle from (I refused to share that info unless absolutely necessary), but I'm sure they know by the VIN. Either way, the guy from Audi told me I got lucky, and that they typically report dealerships like the one that sold me my vehicle to Audi for a slap on the wrist or perhaps even fines.
When they pulled up my vehicle report on the system, it had an American address listed, not my Canadian address as per the bill of sale. I guess it was something the American Dealer tried to do to stay below the radar as the sale was going through.
None the less, I thought you guys should know about this. The extended warranty is a fantastic thing to have, and if you're able to find a dealer that will sell you a CPO vehicle in the USA, do it, just ensure you get as much information in writing as you can. Original factory warranties are transferable with NO problems whatsoever, it's just the CPO that you've gotta worry about.

I am a new member by the handle S8 madman , my question is because of this CPO warranty issue the US dealer is giving me a 3rd party warranty By a company called Fidelity that is a Platinum warranty for 4 years in addition to the 2 years factory remainingwarranty , is this my best alternative ? car price in canada is 30 k more but candian car is a 2009 , and us car is 2008 ; tks
