Default Building the best engine for racing

How about the 4.2? Would this be a good engine to build up for racing?

Given there is yet no inexpensive supercharger kit for the 4.2, I'd say it cannot be the most easily tunable of engines. That said, there is the 4.2TT from the RS6 that is very tunable. It's a large engine though, so it probably won't fit in the B platform.

For high amounts of horsepower, you can't really beat the 2.7TT: some of those in Europe tuned for drag racing makes over 1000hp.

Hey,
How do you think handling of the a4 compares to bmw 335. Do you think having the engine mounted in front of the wheels really makes a difference. One thing i have noticed when taking long sweeping turns at high speeds is that the rear seems to lift and the outside front sags.

My opinion is that without upgrades, our Audis are out-handled by the BMW. A set of aftermarket sway bars can aid in compensating our cars' understeering tendencies and help level things out. After market shocks and springs (or coilovers) help significantly with the car's lean and further improve our cars' handling. A further step would be the STaSIS high-bias centre diff to allow for more torque to be sent to the rear as needs arise (mind you, it's still not changing the torque bias); at this point our cars ought to readily out-handle the BMW. A last possible upgrade I know of is a rear limited slip diff.

However, I'm very surprised by your reporting that you feel your car's rear is lifting while the front outside sags in long sweepers; does it mean your car is oversteering? Did you lift off your throttle significantly mid-turn? I'm asking since at steady throttle, there is no reason why there is a strong front-back difference in load, but only left-right...

I have to agree with akula. I don't think it would be an easy conversion. Might be easier going in another direction rather than burn yourself out trying to turn your engine into a racer. Just my two cents.
