Hello,
I got the car today. I am very sad and worried.
The car as I mentioned before had the piston rings replaced. I have told the salesman that if the car doesnt have a new engine, I will not take the car. He urged me to wait and see what happens.
So the piston rings were replaced. The dealer calls me and tells me that everything is fine after 2 weeks and a half but the battery wouldnt charge. So I will need to replace the battery and that I have no choice.
That day I told the dealer not to replace the battery because it is not my car anymore and I will not pick up the car.
But I passed by the dealer along with my fiance and I had a meeting with the manager. He made us wait for like 15 minutes outside his office. I believe to read the emails I have been sending. Then during our meeting we told him that we dont want the car and that we need to replace it with a better car. We told him that we had an oil consumption since the beginning and no body believed us. We were very professional, however, he was very unrealistic. I told him that I am making about 450 to 480 KM per tank driving 90% highway and he tells me its normal. I told him that with the A3 (the rental car), I am making 580 to 600KM and he tells me thats a total different car. But the fuel consumption rating are almost the same. Anyways, if you tell this guy that the moon is on fire, he would probably tell you its normal.
We were very angry and frustrated. On top of that he told us that he would take the car but we would lose about $8K. That's ridiculous. He keeps claiming that the car is fixed now. We on the other hand are trying to let him know that they sold us a car that had a problem.
We went and picked up the car today after the battery was replaced and we had a small chat with the salesman. He apologized about the situation we passed through. I mean the car is 6 months old and we had complained on the 10th day.
The car is still under manufacturer's warranty, and the certified warranty won't start until next January. But I am very worried that my car would get stuck having aftermath problems from the engine after my warranty expires. It's scary to get stuck with a $10k bill, if not more.
I wanted to replace the car with an S4, but then me and my fiance agreed to get the TT 2008 instead. I am very frustrated now that I can't replace or return the car.
U know, the whole idea of getting a certified car and spending that extra cash was to get a good reliable car. It wasn't that case. A car that spends about 1L every 1300km is ridiculous.
Today when I picked up the car the electronics were ok and in good working condition, but the engine seems to vibrate more now. I feel it through my seat and steering wheel. I am not sure if I got used to the A3 (CVT Tran.) since I have been driving it for 2 weeks and a half.
Anyhow, just wanted to share my experience. It sucks that consumers are not that protected. It really does!

I found from my previous experience that if you deal with audi canada directly - after having major problems with your dealership that they typically make things happen.
You can also request they send the field representative out to view your car, will take reoccurring major problems (LIKE YOURS) to get this to happen. Also request a loaner ready when you show up, and that NO ONE touches your car until the Rep comes in
after doing this, my dealership called me back with 15 minutes asking me to come in right away to fix the problem, I said "no thanks, audi canada now has the power over my car, and will let me know when to bring my car to your shop... I will not be in otherwise"
that was that, and I got a loaner for 3 and a half weeks, and ended up with a new tranny, which I didn't need but got, due to a mess up on the mechanics end from a previous service.
They never admitted to mechanic error, but I have connections within the industry via a family member working in parts for 30 years

That sounds like your dealer is giving you a really crappy run around. I would definitely call up Audi canada as per Hojimo's suggestion.

My car's problem was that it was burning oil.
The dealer's argument was that they have taken responsibility and that they replaced the piston rings. They told me that it was impossible to know the car was burning oil when it was sold to me.
But just the fact that I bought a car that had an oil burning issue and on top of that it had its engine taken apart, piston rings replaced and played with makes me worried. I mean I didnt spend over $30k for such a car. That's why i went for the certified the first place.
As much as I want the car, I cant really feel confident. Thats why I wanted to change it and I was willing to pay extra to exchange it with a better car. Didnt happen.

Ok! Forum sorry for not updating you about what happened, had my GMAT examd and was studying like crazy after work...
Anyhow, I was able to contact the dealer and I met with the manager. Me and my fiance were able to give the dealer two options:
- Reduce the price of the car

We gave the manager no choice. He was so confident that the car is perfect.
We should hear from them this coming week.
But up till now, after 3K km, I have no "low oil" msg. u bet, I am knocking on wood like crazy
I will let you know how many more months I will get on my warranty!

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Unfortunately, it seems to be a common practice with many dealerships.
Also, your trust in 'certified' may be a little misplaced. A 'certified' car does not actually mean that anything was done differently to your car over one that isn't certified. I realize that they claim (want you to think) that it was inspected and properly maintained, no accidents, etc, but it sadly isn't the case.
The dealership simply adds a little to the cost of the car (can't remember the exact cost - I want to say $2500) and they 'certify' it. It now has the Certified Pre-Owned Warranty (CPO) so you can have (many) items repaired under warranty (minus the $100 deductible) should you have an issue within the warranty period.
It does not mean your car is better than the one beside it that is not certified. It just means you can get it repaired if it is covered by the warranty.
I wish I had known this when I purchased mine. An independant, 3rd party warranty may have been just as good, for less.

dude...you bought a car, not a sweater at The Gap. You can't frigging return it.
If it's consuming crazy oil, they'll fix it, or they'll replace the 2.0T. Relax and quit being a worry wart. If the piston rings fix doesn't work, they'll get you a new motor.
Trading the car in because you're 'sad and worried' is ridiculous. Being upset that you're going to have to eat **** on the trade in is also ridiculous. That's how business is...and you've driven the car for the better part of a year. It's not frigging free!
Just enjoy the car...it's fixed. If consumption persists, you'll get a new engine. But stop flipping cars...it's just ridiculous because you'll get KILLED on bid-ask s from dealers + sales tax.

That is bullshit, I replaced my A3 with an A4 Avant Quattro two weeks ago and this past weekend I did close to 750k on one tank @ 120km/h with a bit of city driving. Hope you got your problem solved and stay away from that dealership!

Well its hard to get 750K driving city and highway combined.
But ya I got close to 650 (if I remember well) driving from Montreal to Toronto on the A3 when I had my A4's piston rings replaced.
My A4 was giving me very bad mileage before the piston rings were replaced. Now I get between 550 and 600 depending on how I drive (120 km/hr or 160) lool .
So just for an update, the dealer called me and decided to give me extra 4 months on top of the certified warranty. I am not sure if I will take it. I will ask for a minimum of 6 months, thats the amount of time it took the dealer to check my car.
Currently I am very satisfied with the car. Later for an update...

My 2007 2.0T is also burning oil at about 1L per 1000km. Independent of whether it's city or long hwy driving. Summer or Winter. About to take it in today to get another top-up. Will ask them about piston rings. Glad I bought the warranty!
