Default Audi A4 2007 ISSUES!

Hey Guys. New here and just recently bought a 07 AUDI A4 2.0T Quattro Black
Now I'm Having some issues with my Audi and would appreciate any advice
1st Im In toronto and recently its been snowing alot and ITS ABSOLUTELY Terrible in snow.
I Thought the AWD would make it better but it seems worse then my CIVIC :s

LOUD engine noise at Idle and even when hard Accelerating.

Turbo isnt working. and i have some oil leaks.

I know i should probably get to a mechanic but not really using it at the moment.
Any help would be appreciated also should i take it to the dealership or find some other mechanic..
Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Starting off with performance in snow... First of all, are you sure that you have a an A4 Quattro? This maybe a stupid question but a lot of A4's out there are FWD cars. Assuming you have Quattro, do you have winter tires? If not, that may be a big part of the performance in the snow. With an AWD, you will find a lot of situation where the car will oversteer (rear slides out like an RWD) but not to the extent where you will oversteer and slide into something... you do need to countersteer a little bit when you start sliding out... Because you were driving a FWD car before which doesn't necessarily oversteer in snowy situations that might be why. You just got to get used to how the car handles. Plus your car comes equipped with ESP (I know some civics did but not sure in your case) which basically controls your suspension, engine speed to ensure that you get the best traction in any situation. By turning this off, you will be putting yourself in more danger. Whenever you're turning or going up a hill, the ESP will usually kick in and start controlling your engine speed and shifting points.

The loud engine noise is kind of hard to define... At idle, you will feel some vibration, right after you start the car in the morning, the car will sound pretty loud too... these are usually considered normal. But if the noise is extreme, it would be best to get it checked by a mechanic. (It may have to do with the oil leaks you are talking about or potentially the turbo)

Now lastly, regarding the turbo issue. These cars have stock turbo and I assume that if the turbo did quit, it will throw a check engine light. The car being an 07, the chances are slim that your turbo has just quit on you. But still, get it checked by a mechanic. If you do know that you have leaks in your car, simply take it to a mechanic and let them figure it out if you can't diagnose/fix the car yourself. You being located in Toronto, I believe that there are many good shops out there in the GTA area, and you will find a thread on this forum with shops that are recommended and not recommended.

^^^^ Great advise from mikeshin92

Just to add here where did you buy the car? When did you buy the car? What makes you think the turbo is gone? Are you sure you have a quattro?

Your issues and problems with the car are not the norm for a 2007 A4. What kind of shape was the car in when you bought it? Did you get a deal because it had some problems when you bought it?

The people here on the forum are more than willing to help you but you will have to provide more information to get the best answers. Try reading this first before posting to get the very best response to your problems.

"Terrible in snow" - I find that hard to believe if it is quattro... maybe the tires are absolutely shot.

I have all season tires on with decent tread and it is miles better than my front wheel drive Toyota Corolla used to be...

When I was looking for cars I did have a guy that advertised that his car was a "quattro" and when I looked at it there were no badges saying quattro... I checked the rear end and it was only a front wheel drive car. He said "he didnt know they made anything other than quattro..." I dont know if he was trying to scam someone or if he actually didnt realize.

I've had a similar experience to Voodooca. I've had my quattro with performance summer tires out in the snow and it's still way better than FWD. It sounds like you may have purchased a FWD car. What kind of transmission does it have - if the answer is CVT then you sir, are the proud owner of a very expensive Jetta.

Thank you all for the reply.
Really helpful
Firstly I AM SURE Its a QUATTRO. I'm sure there is no TURBO because my BASIC Honda Civic has better acceleration than A4.

Tires are stock. Decent Tread. All Season, NOT WINTER.

"With an AWD, you will find a lot of situation where the car will oversteer (rear slides out like an RWD) but not to the extent where you will oversteer and slide into something... you do need to countersteer a little bit when you start sliding out.."

^ That is exactly what happens. Like u said i am used to it by now. Kind of having fun with the steering actually ;P

Its BRAKING thats my main concern. On slushy surfaces like Parking lots it skids and ABS Kicks in and it just REFUSES TO STOP AT ALL!!!
if its downhill it just keeps GOING

Maybe it is because of the tires. I just wanted to check if there are some settings like the ESP or something that can affect the Traction.

ESP should be on by default... i know when i come ripping around a corner when its snowy and slushy i will see the traction light come on for a second but i just keep going as it seems to auto correct it self it seems. never had any crazy slides at all. as far as breaking i have it to from time to time slam on brakes as some idiot is doing 2-3 lanes changes on qew and it stops very well. people behind me i always worry about. hope that help.
maybe a shop or someone with vag-com can run the scanner for you and see if anything comes up for turbo issues.

Have you had your car scanned for any faults? I have a vagcom and I'd love to see your quattro perform poorly in the snow. I have a FWD with winter tires and I don't seem to have any issues in the city...
