Audi 2006 A4 3.2 Transmission Issues
Hi all,
I need help and opinion on what to do next. I brought my 2006 Audi A4 3.2 to my dealer at Pacific Audi in Torrance for my 75,000 mile engine procedure and the service department called and listed a whole bunch of repairs. This is what he emailed me:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good Afternoon!
Here are list of needed repairs for your vehicle:
Check Engine Light On
Transmission Control Module - Internal fault. Transmission shift control is out of calibration. Transmission not receiving correct commands and having to work to hard to shift properly.
This condition will cause internal failure within transmission which will cause transmission failure over time ($10,000 repair). Cost to replace T.C.M. $2793.35.
Cold-start mis-fires present in multiple cylinders. This is due to excessive carbon buildup on intake valves. Over time this can cause the valves to burn and then a valve job will have to be performed ($5000).
Cost to de-carbonize valves is $1199.73
Brake Repair Needed
Front brake pads measure at 3.5mm front rotors below minimum specs. Cost to replace front pads and rotors $744.20.
Rear brake pads measure at 3mm rear rotors below minimum specs. Cost to replace rear pads and rotors $601.05
Tires Are In Poor Shape
Front tires measure at 2/32" and rear tires measure at 4/32". Cost to replace 4 tires and alignment $1237.65
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I paid the 75,000 mile engine procedure which cost me close to $700. I did not agree to the repairs yet as I wanted a second opinion and brought my car to a German Auto repair mechanic on Pico and Fairfax whom I trust and he told me that the only problem with my Audi was the Hydraulic Module and that it was a common issue with Audis and VWs and that I may get a good-will fix from the dealership. The only problem is that this fix might cost me about $4,000 should there be no goodwill on Audi's part.
Has anyone had TCM issues? I see many posts about TCM transmission issues. Questions that I have are:
1. If the TCM and transmission are common problems with Audi - is there a class action lawsuit against Audi for this issue?
2. Excessive build up in intake valves - does it cost $1200 to fix this? Isn't there a more simple solution?
3. Front brake pads at 3.5mm and rear at 3mm - is that fine or does it need replacement?
Thank you for all your help
