Re: A4 "Ignition Coils"
Hey guys,
Here's what i got. I got home yesterday have a letter from audi canada. they are finally doing a recall on all 2001-2006 A4 maybe A6 ignition coil, free replacement and dianose.
I call the dealership they said they will take your ignition coil out check the part number,
If you are having the old model of ignition coil they will replace for free, I take my car in today.
No luck for me, they said all my ignition coil are newer model and they are working fine.
so guys call your dealership, and if you already change your ignition coil I hope you order the OEM parts and have the copy of recipt, since you can file a claim.
Hope this help.

Re: A4 "Ignition Coils"
you can but an OBDII diagnostic tool for 50 bucks.the recall is for all audi coilpacks'01'06 including A6 & A8...thier recalls will be phased in over the next year...KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS FOR ANY TOW JOBS, BREAKDOWNS AND SERVICING FOR YOUR COILS...AUDI WILL (supposedly) RE-IMBURSE YOU FOR EVERYTHING. All they will do is check the part number (I think anything ending in"R" is ok) and replace any non factory or recalled coils...you won't get the old coils back, so if you've got a couple that are toast (that you saved when they failed) put them back in the engine and keep the good ones for emergency spares.Let Audi give you the new one for your trouble...

I have now been advised that I need a catalitic converter. I think I recall reading something about when the ignition coils break down, they can damage your cat.
is this true?...and if it is..then shouldnt Audi also replace my cat?
Any advice would be appreciated
thanks

If your coils were dead for a while (say someone ignored the MIL on the dash), I can certainly forsee a cat failure due to the excess unburned fuel in the system.
Will Audi pay for it? Who knows? Have you gotten a second opinion about your cat needing replacement?
I believe the warranty on the cat is quite long (a federal requirement, I think) but all you can do is make lots of noise(after looking at the warranty info) at the Service Desk (preferably with LOTS of customers there-lol) and see what happens.
Maybe someone in Audifoum land knows more??

Re: A4 "Ignition Coils"
I live in the USA (California) and was just mailed a letter from Audi that there is a recall on the ignition coils. Actually the letter subject line reads: Upcoming Voluntary Emissions Service Action 28F2/J1 Ignition Coil Inspection/Replacement. I already had one coil go out on me about a year ago and had to pay about $260 for it. Also with the letter I received from Audi is a Customer Campaign Reimbursement Claim Form. All I have to do is fill it out and supply a copy of the invoice for the coil I had replaced and I will get reimbursed. I haven't taken it in yet for the recall but will probably next week. It reads that AT ANY TIME my ignition coil malfunctions, Audi will diagnose and repair at no cost to me in regards to the coils. I'm curious to know if they will change out ALL my coils now due to the recall even if they are currently working now or will they only replace them when they fail? That sucks if they wait until they fail because that means I will be inconvenienced having to tow the car, and no telling at what time or WHERE I'll be when it decides to break. I have a 2005 Audi A4 3.0 Convert.

The stealership will only replace aftermarket and "L" suffix coils.
Also, they won't give you back the old coils as they have to submit them for reimbursement from Audi USA.

Re: A4 "Ignition Coils"
Anyone know it this is common in the 3.2 V6 as well? A brief WOT run last night resulted in a flashing check engine light and a rough idle. Rough idle could have been misfire due to bad coil pack. Restarting the car made the problem go away however the situation is repeatable with WOT.
