Re: 2007 audi a4 quattro
While the 1.8T and 2.0T do have relatively harsh harmonics, how can any of you say that it's 'normal' unless you've actually heard/felt his car?
Nick, depending on what you're used to, I can see someone coming into a 2.0T and thinking that it had an idle problem. Since you're dealing with something very subjective and relative, the only way for you to know if something is wrong is to compare it to other 2.0T A4s and see how it stacks up. For all we know, you're chasing a ghost.

1.8 is smoother than the 2.0. Although I dont drive my brothers car (above), I'm in my GF's on a fairly regular basis ...

Steve, my point was that you don't know how bad the OP's car is as you've never been in it (or maybe you have, and just haven't said as much). For all you know, Nick's is rattling to all hell on broken engine mounts, or a misfiring cylinder, or severe rod knock, or...

Good point - definitely worthwhile comparing to another simlar car to ensure the issue is just the regular less than perfect idle.

I've got a 2006 2.0T and it does cause some vibration in the cabin. I had my crankcase valve replaced and it reduced the vibrations by 50%, but it's still noticeable.

Keep it within reason, and you'll be fine. I do this on all of my vehicles in order to find the 'sweet' spot of the least NVH (I usually have plenty of mods, including stiff mounts).
