Default 2006 A4 b7 apr chip mod 91 octane trial

Hi there,

I thought I would share my results from the APR chip mod upgrade for 91 octane.
My car is stock 2006 A4 2.0T quattro with P235/45 R17 Pirelli all season tires.

My first impression was " wtf I still have turbo lag " which was quickly tempered by the fact that
1. I know my air filter is stock and in dire need of replacement
2. I'm in an tiptrontic, maybe sport mode would help
3. I'm running 91 octane with no other mods

My throttle response was improved marginally and well as my boost at lower rpm but it was nothing to write home about. I did notice significant boost gains in the 4000 rpm range in both 3rd and 4th gear. There was too many cops on the highway to get it really spooled up on the way home however. By the time I hit 6000 rpm in 5th I was going 170 km and had to back off due to traffic.

All in all, the trial did its job of making me want to buy the full APR chip mod with multiple programs as I can at this point only imagine how much fun it would be at 100 octane at the track.

Things to note. I did manage to foul my o2 sensors during this trial which I attribute to my air filter not providing enough air for this mod. I would highly recommend upgrading your air intake/filter to really see the performance from this mod.

The APR website has a list of dealers/shops that can do the upgrade in your area.

I choose GIAC. I did a lot of research and liked the TQ gains more than the HP. I found the Carbonio intake really complemented the 91 tune.
The diverter has the sound of a bov venting to the atmosphere. Loud but not the loud you hear on Grandma's Civic lol.
If I had a complaint it would be the slight turbo lag under the power band of 3K, however over 3k your in the fun zone.

Over all GIAC plus Carbonio fun! (money well spent) thanks Pfaff Tuning

I'm also a big fan of TQ over HP primarily because I seldom find a place to really get up to speed anyway. I would rather be super agile and quick in the low gears
I'm definitely going to get a Carbonio after I upgrade my tires. Primarily because I'm not at all pleased with the stock setup.
Will also have to do something about the stock inlet ducting as it doesn't shield the air from much heat either not to mention it causing horrific air flow issues.
And here I am getting carried away with my daily driver again . lol

There great cars from what I've read/experinced. I come from a Honda back ground so this is all new to me, having fun just the same.

Doesnt the trial only give you like 70-80% of the full power? Wait till you get the full software and you'll be surprised. And instead of doin a full carbonio as suggested by others here, save your money and use a K&N panel filter instead. With the money saved, take out your stock cat and replace with a higher flowing one or remove it altogether (since we have no emissions laws) and replace with a test pipe. Doing either exhaust upgrade will help you tremendously with turbo lag. Oh and get the 93 octane program if you can. Altogether you easily gain about 70 crank hp and roughly 100+ crank tq. And then, post your review! HAve fun modding!
