2006 A4 B7 2.0L Q noise when starting
Hello everyone,
I have 2006 A4 B7 Quattro 2.0L with a weird knocking noise upon start-up. I have searched and read a lot and I'm aware of the "normal" noises these car make at different stages of its life, oil pump noises, idler noises, timing chain and tensioner noises, however I'm not sure if the noises that my car make when first starting up in cold clearly qualifies under any of these categories!
I found however the exact same noise for another guy in youtube and he received no answers, so I'm sharing this guy's video since its exactly what I'm experiencing and would appreciate any pointers, Since I cannot post URLs here's the video ID on Youtube, just enter the following ID in the search and the right video will be displayed: 2Dw6RByN6xA
Thanks.

Well, I realized that the same video referenced in my original post has a part2, this suggests that it is the vacuum pump responsible for the noise!
Can anyone confirm that it is? does anyone know if there is an aftermarket part replacement? if so where to get one in the GTA area or online?
many thx.

hi
I have the knocking noise at start up and found out the oil takes a bit of time to reach the head because of clogged passage ways for the oil to go through but envetually it passes because it never lasts more than a 1 sec or 2,and it's intermittent .had the oil flush with a engine cleaner that you mix in the oil and put back fresh filter and oil,did it 3 times .so now instead of doing it 2 out of 3 starts it's more 1 out 10. the garage told me this is tolerable at this point and should go away doing closer oil changes.
oh and the car has 175000 km pulls great!

Re: 2006 A4 B7 2.0L Q noise when starting
I think I have isolated the issue, at least with my car (160K on the odometer) which turned out to be the vacuum pump.
The noise completely goes away if you pump the brakes a few times as soon as I start the car and start hearing the noise, which confirmed to me that the noise and loading the vacuum pump (through pumping the brakes) definitely are co-related, I also can hear the noise very evident from the pump using a stethoscope on the pump directly!
I priced the pump at the dealer @ $315 for the pump plus about $40 for gaskets and O ring, any ideas for a cheaper aftermarket alternative in the GTA or online?
Thanks for all the feedback, cheers.

Although a diagnosis is recommended ,we checked with our suppliers and are able to get the OEM pump with seal for less. Check your pm!
