Turbo Boost

Re: Turbo Boost
The best and safest way to do it is to get a chip. APR and GIAC are both good options, if you are just doing a chip and then leaving it alone I would say get APR...its a little more aggressive and will give you a bit more power over the GIAC. Now if you plan on upgrading your turbo later GIAC makes a wicked program for the KO4. So you can always get their normal chip and then upgrade it for a small fee when you put on the turbo. Hope that helps

oh and for cost every place i've checked has been around $500ish. Not bad considering you get about 50+hp and torque

Re: Turbo Boost
So, there aren't just adjustments that can be done to boost from what is around 5-7 PSi to around 10-11 PSi? I have heard that when installing a chip, other parts of the car are subjected and prone to more problems....is this true?

Re: Turbo Boost
The only thing that you would need to change if you got a chip would be your dv. you can get one for cheap if all you are doing is a chip. other that that everything will hold up fine. with a chip you will be spiking so 18ish psi and holding around 16. you "can" hook up a mbc and turn the boost up a little, but its not recommended for the simple fact that computer does not simply adjust good enough for the added boost. that is when you run into problems. get a chip, its by far the best bang for buck mod you can ever do to your 1.8T.

Re: Turbo Boost
When I was shopping for the GIAC chip, the best price I found was here:
KK - Audi - Engine
The only thing is that you would have to remove the ECU and send it to him for bench flash loading. Another modification that would be highly recommended is upgrading the intercooler. The GIAC programming is very aggressive (the first version for the K03 was making my car ping/knock) so lowering the IAT is a very good idea to avoid damaging the engine.
