Timing Belt Job

Re: Timing Belt Job
Great list!
Suggest always go with quality parts... OE component supplier / PNs when possible esp with TB parts.
Many melted 2.7T's from one popular TB Kit aka one cheap bolt causing quick Idler Pulley failure under load followed by an immediate Belt Shred. The inexpensive TB Kit supplier has since upgraded the Bolt and continues to sell the kit...

Re: Timing Belt Job
Usually AUDI dealer charge 850+tax for labour and $$$ for parts.
If u wanna change timming belt u should buy:
- timing belt ( dealer 80$)
- water pump (dealer 100$ +50$ deposit, they're return money back if u come back with old one)
- tensioner roller (dealer 140$)
- dumper (dealer 138$)
- serpentine belt (dealer 35$)
- serpentine tensioner (dealer 105$)
- idller roller (dealer42$)
- coolant (dealer 25$ red one)
- sometimes is good to change termostat, for 2003 AMB engine thermostat is expensive, dealer 170$)
- good to change crankshaf seal ( dealer 12$)
U can also order parts from ECStunning or BLUEparts for 250-280 $ USD + shiping + USD dollars exchange + sometimes 6% duty, total 400-500$.
If u living in GTA Area, I can change timing belt for u and I can also order chipper good german parts, for example Contitech.

I'm a brand new member on this forum and my daughter recently bought a used A4 3.0l with 130,000 on it. It now has about 136k and I'm told that it will soon require a new timing belt. We are trying to conserve finances and I wonder what a normal non-dealer charge would be for this timing belt and accessory change. Do you do them?
Thanks,

Re: Timing Belt Job
Hi ozgoode,
I just saw you post, and have to say I am pretty new here as well - both to the forums as well as Audi's. I have read quite a bit on this forums, rec the belts be changes at about 100-120k, so I would, in my very limited knowledge, think that you should look at changing this very soon.
I think a non-dealer would do it for about 900, parts and labour.
I took mine to Independent Tuning, and I paid just over 1300, but I did a full tune up as well, which also included the Air and Cabin filter change, and I had a leak in my rear right diff - I recently bought an A4 with 117k on it, and from what I read, it was due to change, nearly immediately.
Good luck with the Audi.

Re: Timing Belt Job
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have the 3.0 l engine and I have since checked with the dealer here in Ottawa about the timing belt change interval. It turns out to be 170,000 km, according to the dealer. However, a check of the belt is recommended at 125,000 km. I had this done by an independent garage (East Motors) and the belt is fine, no cracks or signs of wear. Therefore, I will not worry about it for now but have another check done in a years time (the cost was $50).
All the best,
Ozgoode

Re: Timing Belt Job
I got my timing belt done at Eurospeed. I wanna start by saying that Jack is the biggest there. I took my A4 to get my timing belt to get changed at 105000km, which is no where near its service date, but I wanted to get it over and done with. He charged me $900 for a Continental timing belt kit, serpentine belt and tensioner and waterpump.
After I drove it home, the car would squeal when I started it up because the belt was slipping off the alternator. Then my engine speed sensor died, my car started leaking oil, I had to get my N75 valve replaced and my brake vacuum pump.
So after $1500+ in repairs, I took my car to Peter's Garage because the car was humming after 40km/h to find out that my timing belt was put on too tight and the only way to loosen it up is to take off the front end and make the adjustments.
Eurospeed is by far the worst Audi/VW shop in the GTA. DO NOT recommend them to anybody. Vaso at Peter's Garage is friendly, honest and knowledgeable. He's always taken great care of my A4
