Default Symphony II AUX input, NON-IPOD

Hi there,

I have bought and currently uses this Symphony head unit from this auction :
Here

This radio is a Symphony II *with built-in 6-CD changer*. I have no other CD changer in the glovebox or elsewhere.

With an adaptor called CTVADX01, will I be able to use a NON-IPOD, standard MP3 player?

Most importantly, will I loose the built-in CD changer?

I ask the question because information I found was not clear, and most important was concerning IPODs.

One point that confuses me is that sometimes it is said that "!!! If you already have a CD changer fitted then this cannot be used at the same time and must be disconnected !!!", like in the auction. Do they talk about another CD changer in the glove box or I would actually loose my built-in CD changer?

Thank you, and I hope it can be useful for others!

Thumbs up Re: Symphony II AUX input, NON-IPOD

Hey guys - I have 2007 B7 Avant with the Symphony stereo with in-dash 6-CD changer. After some investigation, I purchased and installed (myself) the Dension Gateway 100. This interface is connected by removing the factory head unit and simply plugging the Dension unit between the power supply and the factory radio using custom harnesses - truly plug and play. The small module sits behind the dash, and supports both a standard ipod cable (which not only charges the ipod but also displays song info in your heads up display in the cluster) or a 3.5 mm mini plug that can be used on an ipod or any generic MP3 device. You can order the appropriate ipod cable from Dension, and can buy an aftermarket 3.5 mm cable from Future Shop or any retailer. The sound quality is excellent, and both plugs retain the steering wheel controls for skipping songs and volume controls. You can find installation ad demonstration videos for the Dension product line on YouTube. Highly recommended!

Might be too late but...

Audi B6 A4 Quattro 1.8T > Interior > Stereo > ES#435773 Symphony II Radio - In Dash 6 CD Changer - 8E0035195A

Also, I have the Dension 300 gateway in my Jetta and it works as Uberwagen states. In dash cd works just fine with it.

I think I found the most cost effective solution :

Consists of 2 cables :
Cable no.1 Plugs into the HU with Green & White connector, leaving space for the other connector

The other part, red, receives the original connector that normally goes in the HU.

Cable no. 2 plugs into the HU, at the newly allocated space by using the green & white connector.

If my beliefs are right, this would be the cheapest way to have a MP3 player plying into a Symphony HU.

Some pics of the connectors :

Someone with knowledge can confirm this??

Update : There is a so-called AUX when I press twice on the CD button on the radio. When I do it, nothing happens... why is that so?

Not too sure. Seems like it should work but I've never used a two cable system like that. The Dension one I have is all one harness that fits between the factory harness and the stereo itself.

Okay, but independently of the hardware used to make it work, does your radio show AUX or something likt this when pressins CD twice?

It seems that II+ handles AUX, and II does not. I have a Symphony II.

Also, it can be a VAG-COM thing that makes the AUX input disabled by default... I have a VAG-COM, so I could test, if I knew how to!

I would need for that to know the coding and address in vag-com. I know at least that it is in #56, which is radio.

EDIT :
After finding this page (here)

I VAG-COMed my radio to find that the code was 00201. I tried to change it to 00213 and nothing has changed in the radio

I NEED to know if someone else with a Symphony II is able to press twice to get an AUX display on the screen!
