Should i keep the car??
Hey guys,
I have an A4 2002 3.0 automatic 110KM. This is my dilemma.I’m faced with putting my 3rd engine in. First time engine ceased when I started the car not knowing my oil pan was cracked and lost all my oil while working) my insurance paid for it and had Audi dealer put in the second engine. One year later slowing down at a red light car started to shake and make weird noise (2 months after my warranty expired on the second engine). My mechanic told me the valves and pistons are f@&k.
I’m Still mad because seem the timing belt looks way older then what they told me the engine was. (Belt look like its 200K, they said they put 70K engine in) pulleys are missing screws, and the timing module is ready to snap off.
My question is this do I spend the 5K job to fix it (used engine with about 50K) or am I doomed for more problems with this car. I do love Audi’s, love the drive, the feel, everything. But they are known for problems and not willing to keep dishing out money like this. Anyone?

I'd cut my losses and ditch the car. 3 Engines is nuts!! Yes, Audis (and any other premium car) can be expensive to maintain, but what you're going through is just too much.

5000 is way to much to keep the car. try to sell it and get another audi. I mean you will need to change timing belt and such and drop another engine into it. or just put a little bit money and buy a newer version if you have the cash.
HINT: Buy standard, it saves gas, cheaper to buy, easy to learn to drive (a week would be sufficient to drive around regularly and it makes you: Guys- 30% cooler ; Girls- 45% more attractive

In your case i would say its just badluck but if you do decide to put another engine in the car change the timing belt while its out in the open just to be safe its alot easier to do with the engine out of the car your going to have to do it eventually. As for if more problems will happen they probably will hate to break to you but a new engine wont stop your control arms, bearings, and all the electrical stuff from going soon. Audis are great cars i love them but no car is perfect if you can get a good price for selling yours with a blown motor then do it and get another car.

naw, based on your bad luck with the motor, i think u should cut your losses and buy a temporary shitbox and when u have the finance, then get an another audi.
or look on autotrader or craigslist... cheap audi at a low price.

My personal opinio and in no way a passing of judgement as not all facts are known:
I think the first mistake was that you trusted the DEALER to install a replacement engine.
The second mistake, after trusting the DEALER, was that you did not suspect that a job done by a DEALER and paid for by an INSURANCE Co. will end-up costing you money!
If you had the car since new, or nearly new and you know that it is solid from all other points of view, I think (opinion) that you should get an engine for it, get it "renewed" (new timing belt, water pump, etc, and have it thoroughly inspected for leaks and problems) and then have it installed by someone who is caring and knowledgeble! Another way to go is to have the present engine rebuilt by someone who knows how to do that RIGHT! Ditching the car is a last resort and personally I would do that only if the car was involved in a bad collision.
Either way you are looking at a considerable expense and your circumstances should guide you!

Yeah im hearing that alot about not doing these kinds of jobs at a dealer.
im getting the engine for 5K with new belt, water ppump, new pulleys, tax and installation included. theres no rust, any visible probelms with the car, i had it checked out. (only a leaky back differential. which will be fixed)
And nevermind that i bought new tires 3 days before this happened lol

Let it go and take your lost. You have been having really bad luck with this one.
New cars are way more efficient. Just returned my 2006 for a newer 2009. Looking forward to get it next week.
Way better driving style, great engine with a lots of torque.
