Default Should I buy? 2002 Audi A4 1.8T

Hey guys,

new to forum here, about to possibly become an Audi owner for the first time.

I am looking for some Audi expert advice on this trade.

The car in question is a 2002 Audi A4 1.8T AWD 5 speed manual. It is an american car imported here into canada and currently is in kingston ontario. it has 142 000 MILES or about 220 kms. It is completely stock, there are no mods done to this car. I am about to view it this weekend as I live north of barrie.

I previously owned a 2003 VW 1.8t and went through the timing belt/waterpump replacement, i used only synthetic oil and changed it on 5000km intervals and the car worked great.

This audi has had the timing belt and waterpump done according to service intervals and to my knowledge is in great condition

kijiji ad id 289733289

that is the add for the car.

Notice the back wheels passenger side, it looks like the plastic inner wheel well moulding is dropping down? seems odd?

Let me know what your first impression is on this car and if im headed the right direction...

Thanks!

the fender liners in the back are carpet, mine both dropped down on my 02 just take the tire off and screws out and use washers under the screw head to hold them back in place.

overall it looks pretty clean, these things are super finnicky, ive had my 02 for about 6 months now and have spent about $500 in repairs and thats doing it myself, the price looks about right.

if it has xenon lights turn them on and make sure they arent flickering, check the back of the cyl head infront of the firewall to see if the coolant flange is leaking and maybe take it in to a vw/audi independant for a pre purchase inspection to check out the front suspension.

Thanks for the reply.

I have read about the back coolant flange leaking, will do for sure!
My buddy has a B5 S4 with $15000 into the motor and it runs 11's in the quarter and I occasionally help him out working on it, so I have learnt much about working on these cars and how expensive they are to maintain. It is well worth the maintanence though! I will definitly check the lights if it has them!

Thanks for the reply, will keep those interested posted about how this goes!

If I remember correctly the timing belt schedule is 115000km, so it is very close to the second one. Had the second one being done ? It is an aprox. $700 job.
To my personal opinion the asking price is a bit high, but I hope there is room for negotiations.

Alot of strange things happened with the 2002 2003 A4 models. Try to stick with 2004 and 2005 models. Beta year models of any vehicles have higher frustrations.

With that many miles, you could very easily be looking at a turbo replacement in the near future. I agree with maxaudi, the price is high. If the car was mint with full service history, I wouldn't pay more than $6000 with that many miles on it.
