I just spent $600 or refinishing my five summer 17'' OEM rims back to factory new finish at an independent shop who charges our dealers 30% extra.
I was wondering and it may sound stupid but to simply avoid putting my 5th mag in the trunk to save a few kg. I may have lost it indeed...

It probably wouldnt make much of a difference. If you want it out anyway, make sure you have CAA at least.

I don't see a problem rolling without a spare unless you travel on the highway or in some kind of remote areas. In the city there's always another way to get home if you have a flat. Put a nice subwoofer in there or something.

Do you have a girlfriend? If so, yank the spare! There's your CAA right there If you've got semi-exotic tires that can't be purchased anywhere, put the spare in for road-trips.

I'm somewhat concerned about reducing the weight on my car - because modern cars are PIGS! - and I always pull the spare. Each individual part doesn't equal much, but my car is down over 220lbs from stock. It makes a significant difference.

Removing a spare tire to save weight on a street car seems ridiculous to me. If we were talking about a track car, I'm all for shedding every pound possible and agree that weight makes a huge difference in performance.

On a road car, you run the risk of getting a flat and having to wait on CAA or a friend/spouse - for what gain? So that your car handles better while changing lanes on the way to work? Your vehicle weight will fluctuate by more than the weight of the spare tire when you gas up or put people in the car.

Yep wifey basically commutes 2.4km to work/daycare and never pushes it past 2,000rpm, I on the other hand when I do drive it dare to push it on rare occasions to 4000rpm lol

I'd rather go have a coffee waiting for CAA then try to change a tire on a snowy, slushy road with a widowmaker jack in traffic. As far as weight goes, what does a full size wheel and tire plus the tools to change it weigh? It's probably like always having one (smallish) less person in the car all the time.
