Run Flat tires
Hi guys,
I have a set of run flat Blizzak tires that I wanted to mount on a set of A4 rims. When I brought them to get mounted, the mechanic said that you need special run flat rims of the tires. Is this true? and how do I know which rims can be used for run flat tires?
thanks,

Re: Run Flat tires
All depents on the type.. Run Flats are still new technology thats being tested everyday. I still have to learn a lot about them but from what I do know is you do not need special wheels to maintain the run flat capability. The sidewall construction is most of what makes a run flat tire have the extended use with zero air pressure.
My question to you is why do you want to run Runflats. Your begging for a headache and a hurt bank account if you ever damage one. People think run flats are unstoppable.. One nail puncture will cost you 400-600 bucks as run flats are not repairable. They are built to get you to the garage ASAP when you need to replace.... actually thats not politically correct, they were built for the lazy type that think their too good to change a flat tire.
Ask your self this, in the last 5 years, how many flats have you had?

Re: Run Flat tires
I wasn't really in the market for run flats but my friend had used them for a winter and sold them to me for next to nothing. So...are you saying that it's possible to install them on a normal rim.(rim not designed for run flat tires) My guy said that it's not possible because the tire wouldn't hold the air. Can someone confirm that?

Have a read! I'm searching info for ya and i'm getting a lot of "there is no such thing as runflat rims" and i am getting people saying a run flat rim has an extra lip inside the rim to hold onto the tire when there is no air in the tire. I'd just avoid them myself and go with your mechanics knowledge, but there maybe a straight forward answer somewhere on this WWW.

Re: Run Flat tires
I called Tires23 yesterday and they've informed me that it is possible to install the run flats on a regular rim. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

Re: Run Flat tires
There ya go.. My initial sensus was correct.. Appreciate the update.
Go to that original mechanic that said you couldn't and teach him a lesson!
Now, just don't damage any of them and you'll be fine. DO you feel like a BMW driver now. lol jokes.
