PRNDS flashing
since yesterday i'm having my PRNDS flashing during car startup...mechanic diagosed below error:
17090 - transmission sensor(F125) implausible signal
P0206-000-intermittent
and told me that part no. 8E0910155J needs to be replaced.
I'm into what??
My car is 2004/2.4L multi tronic

If the error code is 17090 - P0706 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit, then the TCM (Transmission Control Module) needs to be replaced. In some Audi's the TCM is placed inside the transmission box which translates to expensive labor (3-4 hrs). The part itself is around $700 at dealership. Contact Audi Canada, they might help with a portion of the costs.

TCU - transmission control unit. This is on top of transmission and it is a computer. It costs $1,400.00 to replace at the shop. It gets damaged when water gets into it and the water comes from the area where battery is. Check this area for leaks so it does not happen again.
It is possible that it will go away once it dries. It is fine to drive the car, you will not damage anything, but tiptronic does not work, that's all.
You have 2 transmissions within your transmission. When TCU quits one of them quits.
Now your transmission is rough but it does not damage anything.

thanks adam, its rarely rains over here(jeddah-saudi), but about a month ago i went to a place where it was raining and first time my car drove in rain for about half hour....i went home and washed my car(really well)... but why this happned after a month??
my mechanic says that TCU is inside gearbox..
Really pleased to know that i can still drive my car without any further damage
(anybody thinks other way??)
Also my car is multitronic any other driving suggestions bfore i get it fixed??

Hi, It's not the rain, and it's not the water... It's the module itself, and the multifunction switch in particular. It is a very well known issue with the CVT trannies, and Audi might be willing to help you by chiping in. Ask them. I had the same problem, and I've spent 1 hour talking to the service manager where I've serviced my Audi (2005 CVT). He told me there is no problem to drive the car for a short period of time, but in the long run this issue is going to damage the tranny. The new modules are more reliable; Audi seems to have fixed the problem. The part, as I said before, is around $700 (well, in Canada), but I found it for $500 on the net. The labour should be around 3.5hrs. The part if ordered in Germany comes already programmed according to your VIN, so no additional labour time. Because the TCM is placed inside the transmission, you will need new seals, maybe new bolts, and new transmission fluid - when the cover of the tranny is removed the fluid is lost. The other parts, including the fluid, are around $100, again, in Canada. I have asked 14 different Audi dealerships and all gave me the same price for all the parts involved: $910 (taxes in - 13%). Now, when it came to the labour it was a totally different story: it went from 3.5 hrs to 8 hrs. BS!!! The industry standard for this kind of repair is 3.5hrs. Multiply it by the hourly rate and you will get your cost to fix this issue.
My bill was $13xx.00 ( I do not remember exactly the amount), and Audi Canada agreed to cover half of it, so I ended up paying $6xx.00.

Yes it is the multifunction switch - when dirt or water gets into it, or this is due to the rapid temperature change when you hit the water.
In my case it was driving through water 2 feet deep that damaged it and it was 3 weeks after. The other part that may get damaged is the ceramics in the exhaust. They burst and plug the exhaust completely.
