Oil Temperature Gauge not working - Help Appreciated!
CAR: AUDI A4 3.0
My oil temperature gauge will not give me accurate readings. Sometimes the needle will begin to work and scroll to 90 degrees, but then it will fall back to low (60 degrees) after a few seconds. Therefore the gauge itself is working but the sensor is not. Has anyone come across this problem before?
The mechanic i spoke to said that incorrect oil temperature readings by the sensor could impact multiple components of the engine, which are all managed by the onboard computers. Is this B/S or does he have a good point?
Any feedback on how to diagnose this issue and perhaps fix it myself would be much appreciated. I want to see what the forum has to say prior to going to the shop. Afterall, you guys helped me fix my annoying power steering 'whining' noise...thank god!!

i have a 2002 a4 3.0 pretty sure the gauge is for the coolant temp not oil. anyway mine was doing the same thing. there is a extended warrenty for it 10 years or 160,000 k mine was covered got it fixed at the dealer its the coolant temp sensor
parts and labour.
your mechanic is half right the reason for warrenty extension was the temp sensor has a lot to do with the emmisions control system dont think you will do any damage no reason not to get it done sooner rather than later though if the dealer will do it for free.

I had the same issue and got screwed for $288 parts and labour to get it repaired!
Do you guys have proof for me that the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor is covered by an extended warranty?
Parts cost me $39, and the labour was $244.
I got royally screwed with the CVT Trasnmission control Module, and had the ECT sensor done at the same time. Now it sounds like I got bent over twice in one shot.
If anyone has more information for me please let me know.

Do you guys know where the ECT sensor is located on the 3.0 V6? I will call the dealership to see if it is covered under warranty, but if they give me hassle I will try and replace it myself.
Is it behind the engine bay like in the 1.8T?

I managed to find a step by step visual on how to replace the ECT sensor.
DIY: 3.0 G62 Green coolant temperature sensor
Enjoy!

Thanks, I saved a copy of that, any chance you have the second page about the reimbursement form?
Looks like I may have to make a call to Audi Canada again.
Just checking through the Bentley recall notices to see if my VIN is affected by this. I notice the letter says "Certain .... ... Audi Vehicles"
