Maintenance Light - how sensitive is this?
The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) went off on my dashboard this weekend. 3 hours later, it turned itself off. I assume this is the "check engine" light?
Spoke with the Stealership, and the Service rep told me it could be from a number of things. And as long as it isn't blinking/flashing, it's no real emergency.
"Welcome to owning an Audi" is all I'm hearing from people.
How sensitive is this MIL? Is it normal to come on and off on it's own?
I added some off the shelf Fuel Filter cleaner into my gas last week, but that's the only cause that I can think of, other than wear-and-tear.
Suggestions, experiences, opinions?

Yes, I would say any additives could set off an "im confused" signal to the car. Also, I find that temperature changes can sometimes cause temporary signals to fire. Extreme hot or cold until it reaches a stable running temperature...
Havent had my B6 for long, but I've noticed a couple small pop up indicators that dont mean anything at all...(so I think).
cheers.

MIL can signal a million things including a loose gas cap. It will sometimes happen when you get a rough start (engine flooded, bad gas, low battery) and then clear itself after a certain number of good starts. But the only way to know is with a scan tool. You can avoid a lot of the frustration of owning an Audi by getting a VAG-COM cable. You can even get a cheap serial version off eBay and use it with the shareware version of the Ross-Tech software, so you can check and clear codes.

Any sugestions as to what "cheaper" VAG COM cable one should buy?
Also what connector is required, ups one end, what at the other end or is that standard for the Audi brand (required for an Allroad)?
Thanks for the input.

Audi Stealership will be charging $60 just to plug their computer in.
2002 at 118k; will I be using this frequently, if I were to purchase?
