Default maintenance

i cant seem to find the owners manual for my car so i need help folks. i have an 2004 a4 1.8t with roughly 96000 km's. Im pretty sure that theres some maintenance things that i am required once i hit a certain amount of km's. would anyone kindly look into their manuals and give me a heads up on what i should and need to do? Also when i press the wrench icon on my dashboard it tells me that i need to service the vehicle in 1400 km's..whats that mean exactly? is there an online owners manual?

thanks again

well the manual says to change the oil roughly between 14,000 to 15,000 km. BUT, as most other members will agree, change your oil ATLEAST every 8,000 km.

Some change every 5,000 km but most mechanics will tell you that's not necessary but some like to be extra careful due to the sludge problem that our 1.8T engines are plagued with.

But the intervals...i'm not 100% sure on. I know there is one on 70,000 which mine is just about due for. And i'm guessing there's another one around 85,000....ish lol

but you are close to the point of having your timing belt replaced if you haven't already done so. Best advice: get it done at a reputable independent shop. Its around half the price as a dealership with quality at par if not better. If you need a good independent shop, try asking 1move. I think he also lives in Edmonton. I'm sure he can point you in the right direction.

thanks for the help. i think im just gonna go and try to find a place that might sell both the owner and service manuals. I have already called the audi dealership here in edmonton and their asking $160+ just for the owners manual. If anyone knows a place thats more local, send me a reply asap. Thanks.

wow. I bought my owners manual for my 2005 audi avant for $55 at the dealer. How can your dealer charge so much!

do a search on google for 2004 Maintenance Intervals. I did find one for my car on the net.

Yeah i thought they were joking when they first said that to me but i guess not. They even gave me a "discount" as they supposably had to many..it brought the price down to $125 but still, its way to much. Btw, thanks for the tip about googling the maintenance intervals. I got the info from driverside.com if anyone else needs info like me. The site gave me this list:

Service due at 65,000 Miles
Change fluid Crankcase
Inspect fluid level Brake system
Inspect fluid level Windshield & headlight washers
Inspect Brake system
Inspect Tire repair set
Inspect Windshield & headlight washers
Inspect/rotate Wheels & tires
Replace Oil filter
Reset Service interval display

1) However is that all i really need to do? How about the spark plugs & wire, water pump and timing belt?

--------------------------------------------

I also went to a known audi mechanic here in edmonton and had him check out my car since the check engine light came on. He pulled out 2 codes (16804 & 19537). The 16804 code came up as: Catalyst System bank 1 operation too low and 19537 is: Engine temp too low (Btw, my temp gauge on my dash has always stayed in the middle). He says i need a new Catalyst convertor and maybe 2 new o2 sensors since their closely related to one another. The CAT alone is $1000 and each o2 sensor is around $200, since i need time to make that much..is it alright to drive the car around while i need these repairs? I know that CAT's are only used to reduce emission from out cars so IMO i dont see this causing any harm or damage onto my car.

However any helpfull comments are more than welcome.

Sparkplugs are to be replaced every 55,000

Timing Belt at 115,000

Read the bottom of the maintenance sheet and you will see you need to replace the brake fluid every 2 years.

How stupid of me, i fully checked out the site and it gave me the complete breakdown of all my maintenance intervals. However not once did it say anything about the water pump. Does anyone know when this should be changed? And alas, my CAT question still stands.

Recommended water pump, thermostat be changed when doing the timing belt - the engine is all opened up at that time, otherwise you end up having to pull apart the engine again.
