Re: Lubro Moly and Mann Filter Help
Just so you're aware, I believe this is their Group III "synthetic", similar to Castrol Syntec and the reformulated Mobil1.
Their group IV full synthetic is the Synthoil Energy 0W-40, part No. 2050 . If it says Synthetic Technology on the label, it's not full synthetic. I'm sure it's still a very good product, but if you want a full synthetic, it's misleading.

Re: Lubro Moly and Mann Filter Help
It's called Gearheads and it's located in Richmond BC.
Gearheads Online
So if I wanted the full synthetic Lubro Moly I would need to get the 0w-40?

Re: Lubro Moly and Mann Filter Help
Here's a response about this from Lubro Moly posted on another forum last year..
Our LIQUI MOLY SYNTHOIL PREMIUM 5W-40, part no. 2040, is a HC oil group III with a noack volatility 12%.
In former times we had an oil with the same part-no. that was a full synthetic oil group IV, but now we changed the recipy into this HC oil.
If you would like to use an PAO full synthetic group IV oil for your VW Golf GTI we recommend you our LUBRO MOLY SYNTHOIL ENERGY 0W-40, part-no. 2050.
This oil has an noack volatility of 9% and we recommend it for the requested VW specifications VW 502 000/505 000.

Re: Lubro Moly and Mann Filter Help
I don't know if they import other grades in full synthetic. You need to check the label. If it's made in Germany it will say Fully Synthetic on the label, not Synthetic Technology which is a group III. In Europe this type of oil cannot be labeled as synthetic. Oil made in North America can be labeled as synthetic even though it's a group III and there is no way to tell from the label.

Re: Lubro Moly and Mann Filter Help
If it is part number 2040 it is a group III, which for the North American market can be called full synthetic, even though it is a hydro cracked oil. Confusing isn't it. Even though it is made in Germany, if it's only marketed in North America it can still be called fully synthetic. Unless you specifically want the performance characteristics of POA based full synthetic, I wouldn't get stressed about this. If you do, then look for the 0W-40. If you don't really know, do some research to see if you need this type of oil. The oil you have meets the VW/Audi spec and is fine for your car.
